Biography

Mark Gattis was born in 1966 in Sedgefield, a small English town. Directly opposite the house was a psychiatric clinic where his parents worked, Mark often visited them at work. Therefore, he has many childhood memories of the inhabitants of the clinic and its staff.

It was in the clinic that he began to explore the world of cinema, when he went there for sessions. He especially liked watching horror films and fantasy - it was impossible to tear the boy away from the screen. He even tried to write something in these genres.

Mark began to deliberately write screenplays for films as a student at Bretton Hall College. The first thing he wrote was a sequel to Doctor Who in his own way. It was both a serious test of the pen and a gain in screenwriting skills.

According to his stories, several episodes of this film were filmed, and then his scripts were used on the set of new episodes of Doctor Who in 2005.

Career in television and film

In the late nineties of the last century, Mark and his friends made the TV show "League of Gentlemen", where they showed short humorous plays. The program was a huge success, went to a full house, and for this work the show was awarded prestigious prizes several times. This was a powerful incentive to continue working on television.

However, Mark was also interested in cinema, and at the same time he played cameo roles in the films Poirot, Birthday Girl, Gloomy House, Game of Thrones and others. Moreover, in many films he will be included in the process as a screenwriter-co-author, bringing many interesting moments to the plot.

One day the moment came when Gattis was given complete freedom of action: for the film "The First Men in the Moon" (2010), he wrote the entire script, was its producer and even played a role in it.

This year was successful for Gattis: a film about Sherlock Holmes was released with the participation of Benedict Cumberbatch. The picture became a cult, and the script for it was written by Mark Gattis and Stephen Moffat. The fourth season of "Sherlock" was released in 2016-2017, and the writers are not going to stop - they are writing all the new Holmes adventures. The famous hero continues to live in this project.
