The pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, like two sisters, proudly rise in the territory northeast of the capital of Mexico. This is the location of the majestic in the past, and today the ruined city of Teotiucan.
A bit of history
Presumably, the city of Teotiukan (City of the Gods), which personified a whole civilization, was founded in 100 BC, 1000 years before the rise of the Aztec empire. The pyramids of the Sun and the Moon were erected by the ancient people as sanctuaries of the heavenly bodies, which they deified at that time - this is what the ancient Aztec legend says. But to this day, history cannot give an answer who founded this amazing city - a kind of religious capital of the ancient Mexican state, which left such an indelible mark on the modern world.
The reasons for the destruction also remain a mystery to historians and archaeologists. Legends interpret the events of the past in different ways, so many different theories are born. But an important factor is the great similarity of the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon with the Egyptian ones.
Pyramids of the Sun and Moon
The pyramids of the Sun and the Moon are included in the whole complex, where, in addition to the pyramids themselves, other impressive structures are located. To get to the pyramid of the Sun, you should go along the Road of the Dead through the central gate. The road is 2 km long. The base of the pyramid is equal in area to the pyramid at Giza, and its other proportions make it even more similar to the majestic structure of Egypt.
A characteristic feature is an interesting fact: the tops of both Mexican pyramids are at the same level due to the fact that the smaller pyramid of the Moon, 42 m high, is located on a hill. In this case, the height of the pyramid of the Sun is 64.5 m.
The erection of the pyramids of the Moon and the Sun personified a certain philosophy, where each individual cell was a symbol of consciousness. This can be seen even in the stairs leading to different levels of the pyramid. For example, the narrowest staircase symbolizes the smallest area of the brain in the symbolic cell of consciousness.
