Sergey Kobylash has gone from a simple military pilot to the commander of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation. He mastered several types of aircraft. Kobylash was directly involved in operations to restore and maintain order in the Chechen Republic, as well as in the events of 2008 in South Ossetia. For the courage shown in battles, Sergei Ivanovich was nominated for the high title of Hero of Russia.
Sergey Kobylash: facts from the biography
The future Russian military leader was born in Odessa on April 1, 1965. Sergei dreamed of a military career since childhood. In 1987 he graduated from the Higher Aviation School in Yeisk. After graduating from a military university, he served in the army, rose from a pilot to a base commander.
Subsequently, Kobylash continued his education. In 1994 he graduated from the Air Force Academy. The pilot took part in military operations in Chechnya during the restoration of constitutional order in this republic. Here he made more than a dozen combat missions, gaining experience of participation in real tactical operations.
South Ossetia
In August 2008, an armed conflict broke out in South Ossetia. Kobylash at that time commanded an assault aviation regiment stationed in Budennovsk. Its part took part in military operations. During one of the attacks on a military column of Georgian troops, a missile from MANPADS hit the left engine of the plane, which was controlled by Kobylash. Kobylash pulled his Su-25 out of the battle and headed for the airfield.
When Kobylash flew over the village, the second rocket hit the right engine. The plane lost its thrust. The colonel managed to take the combat vehicle away from the city, risking his life. The plane crashed into a mountain gorge, the pilot managed to eject at the last moment. After some time, Kobylash was evacuated by helicopter by a search and rescue group.
In autumn 2008, Colonel Kobylash became a Hero of the Russian Federation. This is how the country's leadership appreciated the courage and heroism shown by the colonel.
Further career
At the end of the military conflict, Kobylash continued to serve in high positions, graduated from the Academy of the General Staff. In November 2013, Kobylash received a new appointment, becoming the chief of aviation of the Air Force. A year later, Sergei Ivanovich became a major general. In 2015, Kobylash took over the leadership of the Personnel Training Center of the Ministry of Defense (the so-called Lipetsk Aviation Center).
In September 2016, Kobylash received a new high appointment: the head of state appointed him commander of long-range aviation. Since February 2017, the Russian military leader has become a lieutenant general.
In 2018, Kobylash took part in a transatlantic flight to Venezuela of two Tu-160 combat vehicles. The flight time was over 13 hours. The length of the route is over 10,000 km.
During his service, Lieutenant General Kobylash mastered the main types of flight equipment and received the qualification of a sniper pilot. He has flown a total of over 1600 hours.
Sergey Kobylash is married. He has a daughter, whom the couple named Catherine. Unfortunately, military service leaves very little time for privacy.
