Nikolai Valerianovich Komissarov is a famous Soviet film and theater actor, People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1951 the actor was awarded two Stalin prizes for his roles in the films "The Secret Mission" and "Cavalier of the Golden Star".

The future famous actor was born on January 5 (17) in St. Petersburg in 1890. In 1894, his father, who served in the city bank, was transferred to Kiev. The whole family, where in addition to Nikolai there were two more daughters, moved with him to a new place.

Long road to calling

The head of the family became the director of the Kiev office of the State Bank. He died in 1899. After her husband left life, the mother took up teaching at the city women's gymnasium.

She sent her son to St. Petersburg to study banking at a commercial school, which his father graduated from. During his studies, Komissarov Jr. often participated in his own performances, organized a drama club and played in professional productions of Struisky.

By the time he completed his studies, Nikolai saw himself as an artist. He planned to receive acting education at the Imperial drama courses. However, due to the difficult financial situation of the family, the plans had to be postponed.

The young man started working at the State Bank, like his father. In 1917, Komissarov was elected to the first council of bank employees. Together with other employees, Nikolai Valerianovich went to Berlin to improve his profession.

Upon his return, he became a senior controller of the credit department. In 1919 the bank and its employees were evacuated to Rostov-on-Don. On the way, the transported values were captured by the White Guard troops. Komissarov himself managed to escape.

He managed to wait for the arrival of the Red Army in Rostov. Soon Nikolai Valerianovich was sent as an instructor to liquidate private credit institutions and reorganize the treasury in Azov. Komissarov became a member of the Revolutionary Committee, and then began work in the executive committee.

Dream profession

Nikolai Valerianovich did not stop taking an interest in theatrical art. He willingly participated in the life of the Azov Drama Theater. In the early summer of 1920, together with the Komissarov family, he left for Kiev.

There he was appointed to the post of senior inspector of the financial department. Finally, Komissarov decided to say goodbye to banking after his mother passed away that same year. The stage became his choice.

He helped to implement the plans of the Rabis Union, membership in which Nikolai Valerianovich began in 1917. The beginning artist began working in the railway theater in Kiev. Komissarov collaborated with him since his work at the bank.

For several years, the future famous performer toured all over Ukraine, acted as an artist and stage director, and worked in various theater groups.

From 1927 to 1929 the actor worked at the Leningrad Comedy Theater. Until 1931 he stayed at the Yaroslavl Volkov Theater. 1937 and 1938 became the time spent in the Kiev theater of Lesia Ukrainka.

Komissarov appeared on the stage of the Ivanov Russian drama theater in Odessa in 1935. He returned to its stage several times until 1946.

Film activities and theater

In 1927, while in Leningrad, Nikolai Valerianovich made his film debut.

He starred in the film "Kastus Kalinovsky". The artist has been closely involved in film activities since the late thirties. The famous actor took part in the work on the films "Shchors" and "Karmelyuk".

Benckendorff from Lermontov, Allan in The Secret Mission, General Neklyudov from The Unforgettable 1919, Ippolit in Murder on Dante Street and Colonel Shulgovich from The Duel are called the best film images of the performer.

Komissarov had a powerful dramatic talent. The actor was able to convincingly betray any emotional and psychological states of the characters. At the same time, the artist had a sense of humor and irony, which gave all the images an amazing brightness and memorability.

The characters received completeness thanks to the representativeness and intelligence acquired by the Komissarovs in childhood. In 1946 he became the People's Artist of Ukraine. Even the small screen roles of Nikolai Valerianovich are distinguished by their reliability and interestingness. And the audience enjoyed his high professionalism.

In 1946 Komisarov joined the troupe of the Maly Theater in Moscow. He worked in it until his death. On the stage, the magnificent performer created memorable images of Famusov in Woe from Wit, Neschastlivtsev and Vyshnevsky in Les, Vanyushin in Children of Vanyushin. Abrezkov from "Living Corpse", Frederic Varesco in "Night Trouble".

The performer had an amazing gift to convincingly play heroes with false significance, who prefer to grovel in front of their superiors.

Family life

The artist was not embarrassed by the inconvenience. Upon arrival in the capital, he had to huddle in the dressing room. Then he moved to the apartment provided to him by the theater on Novoslobodskaya.

In 1949, the performer was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Soon the actor's personal life changed. He met Tatyana Mikhailovna Sadovskaya, a representative of the famous theatrical dynasty.

She was a ballet dancer at the Bolshoi Theater of the capital. In 1950, the chosen one became the wife of Komissarov. For the role of Senator Allan, Nikolai Valerianovich was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1951. The next year he won the same prize for his work in the film "Cavalier of the Golden Star", where he played Khokhlakov.

Husband and wife lived in complete harmony for seven years. They always tried to be together in their free time. In September 1957, the acting couple went to Odessa to rest.

On the eve of leaving home, Moscow, Komissarov felt unwell. The doctors could not help him. On September 30, the famous artist passed away.
