Since 1990, Alexander Petrovich entered politics, becoming a People's Deputy of the USSR and a member of the Supreme Council. For two years he chaired the Budget and Planning Commission.
In 1993-1994 Pochinok was the Deputy Minister of Finance of Russia. In 1994 he was elected to the State Duma. Here he deals with issues of finance, as well as taxes and the country's budget.
