Alexander Petrovich Demyanov worked for Soviet intelligence for ethical reasons. He believed that one should not stay away from the struggle when there is a fight with a dangerous and strong opponent. The future state security officer was born in the fall of 1910 in a noble family. Parents at that time lived in St. Petersburg. His father, a native of the Cossacks, served in the artillery. Mother at one time graduated from the famous Bestuzhev courses.
When the First World War began, my father went to the front and died in the hospital from a serious wound. As a child, Demyanov experienced all the hardships and hardships of the Civil War. In order not to die of hunger, mother and Alexander moved to relatives in the city of Anapa. They managed to return to the city on the Neva only in the mid-1920s. The young man was educated at the Polytechnic Institute and worked as an installer of electrical networks. In 1929 he was arrested on a false denunciation. After a while, Demyanov, who was fluent in German, agreed to tacit cooperation with the state security authorities.
Double agent
In the early 1930s, Demyanov was transferred to Moscow. He began working at the Glavkinoprokat trust, and his wife was an assistant director at Mosfilm. Actors, journalists, diplomats and other representatives of the Soviet elite regularly gathered in their house. Foreigners often dropped in too. Alexander watched how certain cultural figures live, but most importantly, he made useful acquaintances with citizens from Germany. This was the main task. After a while, German intelligence agents became interested in his person.
During the Great Patriotic War, Demyanov took an active part in the operation "Monastery". He had to cross the front line twice to gain the confidence of the German intelligence service Abwehr. Here he was given the pseudonym "Max". In turn, on the Soviet side he was called "Heine". The operative creativity of the double agent has brought good results. The German command received false information about the concentration of Soviet troops in the Rzhev area. In fact, the blow was struck at Stalingrad.
Recognition and privacy
For participation in the effective operation, Alexander Demyanov was awarded the Order of the Red Star. One can speak about the personal life of an intelligence officer with a certain degree of convention. The husband and wife served the Fatherland. Whether love arose between them, one can only guess. Alexander Petrovich Demyanov died of a massive heart attack in the summer of 1978.
