Boris Slutsky began composing poetry at a young age. Then there was a big break in the poet's work associated with the war. Returning from the front, Boris Abramovich did not immediately resume work in the field of literature. But gradually I got involved in a creative rhythm. Slutsky's works are filled with living language: in his poems and prose there are many rhythmic interruptions, repetitions and omissions.
From the biography of Boris Abramovich Slutsky
The future famous Soviet poet and translator was born in Slavyansk (Donetsk region, Ukraine) on May 7, 1919. Boris's father was a simple employee, his mother taught music. Two years after the birth of their son, the parents moved to Kharkov in search of a better life. I had to work a lot, but there was always not enough money to live on. The area where Slutsky grew up was difficult to call friendly. Working people in those days lived in poverty.
In 1937, Boris became a student of the law faculty of the Moscow Institute of Law. Two years later, he also entered the Gorky Literary Institute. The young men were driven by a craving for poetry. Slutsky graduated from the law faculty in 1941, and then continued his studies in literary criticism.
Since 1941, Boris began to publish in the magazine "October". Some of the works of the young poet were published in the collection "Poems of Moscow Students". In the poetic community, Slutsky was put on a par with such masters of words as D. Samoilov, N. Glazkov, M. Kulchitsky.
Years of war
Boris Abramovich recalled that he had not written since the beginning of the war: all thoughts and deeds of those times were associated with the threat hanging over the country. The poet returned to creativity only after defeating the Nazis.
During the war, Slutsky was a private in the 60th rifle brigade. Later he rose to the rank of senior instructor. Was injured. As a result of concussion, Boris Abramovich often experienced headaches.
Boris Slutsky's creativity after the war
The war is over. In 1957 Slutsky became a member of the Writers' Union of the USSR. But he returned to creating poetry back in 1948. In addition, Boris Abramovich was engaged in prose and translation - this expanded the range of his creative possibilities.
In 1958, Slutsky opposed the work of the disgraced Boris Pasternak. But later he repented, realizing his mistake. Friends recalled that the poet could not forgive himself for this act until the end of his life. As Slutsky himself believed, at that moment the "mechanism of party discipline" simply worked.
The poet's personal life was full of tragedy. For many years Boris Abramovich was married to Tatiana Dashkovskaya. The wife was sick a lot and passed away at the final stage of cancer. This happened in 1977. Slutsky took this loss hard and tried to fill the resulting void with creativity. After the death of Tatiana, Slutsky wrote over a thousand poems.
Slutsky spent the last years of his life with his brother, in Tula. For some time, Boris Abramovich was undergoing rehabilitation in a psychiatric clinic. During these years, the poet was not published.
Boris Slutsky passed away on February 23, 1986. The poet's grave is located at the Pyatnitsky cemetery in Moscow.
