early years

American James McGee was born on December 13, 1972 in Dallas, Texas. The mother, who was a creative person, insisted on an unusual name. In one of the interviews, the American admitted that he was pretty tired of the question from those around him whether he had his real name. As a child, he even had a complex about this.

Shortly after the birth of Americana, his father left the family. His upbringing was carried out by his mother, who was not distinguished by severity. This is probably why the son grew up a bully.

McGee showed a keen interest in technology from an early age. At the age of 11, his uncle gave him his first computer for the holiday. On it, the young American learned to write codes in BASIC.

At the age of 12, he was caught stealing from a computer store. In an interview, American recalled how ashamed he was when the police handcuffed him and demonstratively led him through the entire store. Even after this, he did not have a rejection of technology.

At 16, McGee became financially independent. He was a dishwasher, jewelry polisher, car mechanic's assistant. In his spare time, American tried to create programs to organize the customers of the auto repair shop. Soon his work was noticed by a professional developer, who told McGee that the programs he wrote were expensive.

In 1992, American met John Carmack, a developer and founder of id Software. Thanks to him, McGee got a job in tech support. At first, he was a simple tester.

Career

In 1993 American tried his hand at level design and game soundtrack. Then he created the surroundings of the landscapes for Doom and the first two parts of Quake.

American soon left id Software. After moving to Eidos Interactive Ltd, he worked on Dominion 3 and Timeline, but quickly left for Electronic Arts, where he took the chair of the creative director.

In 1999, American developed his best and most famous game American McGee's Alice. Its plot revolves around the girl Alice from L. Carroll's fairy tales. The video game was a success not only in the States, but also in many countries around the world.

Shortly after the release of his brainchild, American left Electronic Arts. A few months later, he created his own company. The new business was pretty lucrative.
