Prior to becoming an MMA star, Georges Saint-Pierre worked as a scavenger, a flooring store clerk and a nightclub bouncer. He spent all the money he earned on training in martial arts in order to achieve one goal - to become the best.
As a result, in his entire career, he was defeated only twice and became a legendary fighter. He has more than ten titles such as "Fighter of the Year" and "Athlete of the Year", he has the title of the most famous fighter. In addition, Georges Pierre is a multiple UFC champion in his weight category.
Once he left the ring - there were health problems, but when he returned, he immediately confirmed the title of champion. Another unspoken name of Georges is "king of welterweight". At least that was what he was called until 2013 - the year of his retirement from the fight.
Biography
Georges Pierre was born in 1981 in Quebec. His parents were ordinary workers, and they never thought that their first son would become so famous. Georges had two younger sisters, and he was to become their protector.
However, as soon as he went to school, the harassment of older children immediately began. Georges was short, puny, so he got the most: everything of value was constantly taken away from the boy and they threatened to beat him if he told anyone at least a word about it.
Of course, he was scared to tell everything to his parents, however, the independent character of the future fighter did not allow him to endure such an attitude. Then he went to the karate section to be able to protect himself and his sisters. Along the way, he was engaged in hockey, but then he still chose to wrestle. Mostly he did this because in this sport, victory depended only on him alone, and not on the team.
Very soon after the start of classes, everyone who was older began to fear him, because he could give a worthy rebuff. The ambitious boy liked it, and he began to practice with a vengeance.
When Georges was sixteen years old, he began to study Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then boxing and wrestling. To study science, Pierre began to take an interest in kinesiology - the science of the mechanics of movements. These classes were very expensive, so you had to work hard to pay for them.
Sports career
Since then, five years of tireless training have passed, and now Georges has achieved success - he earned a black belt in Kyokushin karate. He made his professional debut in the UCC league. A fighter from Salvador Ivan Menhivar was put up against him - quite experienced and trained, but Pierre knocked him out in the first round.
In 1992, Georges became the UCC champion in his weight category.
Then he made his debut in the UFC - he fought with the American Karo Parisian. The fight was difficult, and at first it was not clear who won. As a result, the jury awarded Saint-Pierre the victory.
Georges suffered his first defeat from American fighter Matt Hughes. It was annoying, but objectively - Matt was a worthy opponent.
In 2005, Saint-Pierre is fully rehabilitated: he won four matches in a row, and his opponents were not weak ten.
And then came 2006, when the Canadian had to enter the ring against Matt Hughes, who won a year ago. It was an exciting moment for Georges, and he understood that he must first defeat himself, his fears, and then victory in the ring would come. Fortunately, he was able to cope with emotions and defeated the opponent in the second round.
A year later, Saint-Pierre faced another defeat from Matt Serra, to which he reacted very painfully. But there was a plus in this - the athlete concentrated and soon regained the champion title.
He defeated Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, and other strong fighters more than once, all the while remaining at the top of the sports Olympus.
The intense rhythm of training and the psychological load of each fight did not remain without consequences: Saint-Pierre decided to leave the sport for a while. He said that it is difficult to be a champion for a long time - it is constant tension.
He returned in 2017 and won immediately, becoming the UFC middleweight champion.
Since 2018, there have been rumors that Saint-Pierre's manager plans to negotiate a duel with the famous Khabib Nurmagomedov. For a Canadian, this would be a good last chord in his sports career. Of course, with a good outcome of the battle.
Khabib said in his interview that he also did not mind meeting in the ring with a living MMA legend.
Contribution to the film industry
Georges Saint-Pierre is also known as a film actor, who made his debut in 2009 in the film "Deadly Warrior" in a cameo role.
It turns out that, in parallel with training and fighting, he found time to be on the set, because in 2014 he already had a rather significant role in the cult film The First Avenger: Another War. Jean-Pierre played here the villain Georges Bartok. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, an MTV Award for Best Fighting, and a Saturn Award in eleven nominations.
In 2016, a remake of the 1989 film "Kickboxer" is released, where Georges is on the same set with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Saint-Pierre was happy to meet a man whom he admired since childhood.
The producers appreciated the athlete's acting skills, and in 2017 he was invited to play the role of Bruno Sinclair in the crime tape "The Murder of Salazar" starring Steven Seagal. The famous Luke Goss also starred in the film.
It is clear that with such a tense rhythm, Georges does not have time for his personal life. The press sometimes flashes a photo of an athlete next to a beautiful girl, but so far there has been no information about any serious connection in the media.
At the moment, he has plans to shoot in a new film.
