However, it happens that church marriages break up and the question arises before a person about the possibility of a second church marriage.
The creation of an Orthodox family means the union of two loving hearts into a single whole. It is no coincidence that the Bible tells us that what is combined with God is not separated by man. The sacrament of the wedding is the connection that, with mutual consent, unites people in love and divine grace. But sometimes, due to problems in everyday life or other difficult life situations, a marriage can be terminated. In this case, the question of the possibility of a second wedding in the future remains at the discretion of the ruling bishop of the diocese.
The church canon talks about the possible reasons for the dissolution of a married marriage. This is the descent of the Church to human infirmities and gives a person hope for remarriage. There are several reasons for this. First of all, this is the death of one of the spouses. Although the Apostle Paul says that it is better to remain a widow or widower, but if absolutely necessary, you can remarry.
There are several other cases in which a re-wedding is permissible. So, if one of the spouses is diagnosed with an alcoholism, drug addiction or mental disorder, then the possibility of a second church marriage is also real. The main thing is that the bishop gives permission for this. A separate place is occupied by the disease of syphilis and HIV infection. In order to avoid contamination of the partner, the first marriage can be dissolved, and, accordingly, permission for a second wedding is permissible.
If the family has broken up due to adultery and at the same time the injured party has not forgiven the culprit, there is a dissolution of the marriage and the possibility of a repeated church union is also allowed. But in any case, the ruling bishop makes the final decision on the issue of second marriage. Without the blessing of the bishop and the corresponding document, the second time the great sacrament cannot be performed.
