Thriller is one of the most popular genres of popular literature today. It can contain elements of a detective story, action movie, fantasy or adventure novel, and the action can take place anywhere on Earth in the past, present or future. The most important characteristic of the thriller is the twisted plot that keeps the reader in suspense from the first to the last page.
Instructions
Step 1
Do some research to determine which thrillers are currently popular with the public. Explore the shelves of bookstores for this kind of literature. Read the discussion of new thrillers on the forums on the Internet. Think about what topic remains untouched by modern thriller writers, but might be of interest to readers.
Step 2
Remember that the main driving force of a dramatic work, and a thriller can undoubtedly be called a drama, is conflict. The book begins with the emergence of a new conflict or the exacerbation of an old one, and the denouement is its resolution. A conflict can exist between the main character and society, between the main character and his enemy, between the main character and his conscience, etc.
Step 3
Create bright, memorable characters. Create a file for each character in your book, where you write down not only his name, age, profession and general description of his appearance, but also his favorite films or books, attitude to religion, bad habits, etc.
Step 4
Try to break the storyline into separate exciting scenes, more or less evenly spreading them throughout the work. Keep the reader in suspense, do not fully solve the riddle, but only show individual fragments of the mosaic. However, it is important not to be too clever here. If your thriller is too confusing, full of unresolved mysteries and crowds of enigmatic characters, it probably won't be in high demand.
Step 5
Write vivid, lively dialogues. Try to make the conversations of your characters as close as possible to the speech of living people. Do not neglect the use of slang words and expressions. A joke skillfully used after the denouement of a dramatic moment is considered a good artistic device. Under no circumstances should you copy jokes from a collection of jokes - rare readers appreciate used humor. Remember that dialogue should not take precedence over action.
