Tom Clancy was born on April 12, 1947 in the United States, Maryland. Behind him is a Catholic school in Tucson, from which he graduated in 1965. Clancy then studied English Literature in Baltimore. Before plunging into literary activity, he was engaged in the insurance business for some time.
In addition to Tom, the family had two more children. My father worked for the United States Post Office. Mother ran the credit department of one of the local stores. A significant part of the money earned by the parents went to pay for the education of the children.
In his youth, Clancy expressed a desire to join the corps of army officers, but he did not receive such a right: myopia prevented.
In the early 1980s, Tom bought an insurance agency from his wife's relatives. His plans included a life on passive income: this option would allow him to fully engage in literary creativity, without being distracted by making money.
The writer was married twice.
The creative path of Tom Clancy
The writer's debut in fiction was the book The Hunt for Red October (1984). The detective novel about a Soviet nuclear submarine immediately became a bestseller. The work has been translated into a dozen languages. In 1990, the novel was filmed in Hollywood. Sean Connery got the leading role in the film.
Other works by Clancy also received recognition from the readership. His most famous books are Red Storm (1986), Games of the Patriots (1987), The Kremlin Cardinal (1988), All the Fears of the World (1991). Reader interest has been matched by the continued commercial success of Clancy's novels.
The genre in which the writer worked was soon named a technotriller. Tom Clancy passed away in October 2013 in Baltimore, not having time to implement many of his creative ideas.
