Clancy Brown was born in the small town of Erbana, Ohio, USA. His mother, Joyce Eldridge, is a renowned American pianist, composer and conductor. Father, Clarence Brown Jr., is a congressman of the state of Ohio. Clarnes Brown Jr. also heads the Brown Publishing Company, a newspaper company founded by his grandfather Clarence Brown.

The future famous actor received his education in Washington, DC, at St. Albans School . After graduating from high school, Clancy decided to continue his studies and received a scholarship at Northwestern University, located in Chicago, Illinois. It is known that during his studies at Clancy University he was a member of the Sigma Chi Brotherhood.

In 1985, Brown landed his first leading role in Frank Roddam's science fiction film The Bride. The film is based on the novel by Mary Shelley "Frankenstein, or Modern Prometheus" and is a kind of continuation of the plot of the film "Bride of Frankenstein". Clancy played the role of a monster created by Victor Frankenstein in it.

A year later, Clancy played one of the main roles in Russell Mulcahy's fantasy action movie Highlander, which marked the beginning of an entire universe. Such famous actors as Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart and Sean Connery became his colleagues on the set.
