Oleg Sorokin is a well-known politician who holds the post of head of Stolitsa Nizhny State Corporation and head of Nizhny Novgorod. He took over as the head of the city on October 11, 2016, and left it on March 29, 2018. Prior to that, he served as the head of Nizhny Novgorod.
Political activity
Oleg was born on November 15 in the 67th year, went to school in his city, and after that he studied at the Commercial Institute and received an appropriate education. After graduation, he went into business and reached the head of the Capital Nizhny Group of Companies. Another significant position is the position of Deputy Director for Finance of the Thermal Road Fund.
Oleg became the head of his hometown after being elected during a meeting on October 25, 2010. 28 people out of 42 voted for him.
In 2015, when Oleg's powers were coming to an end, the question of appointing another head of the city arose. Valery Shantsev, the regional governor, wanted to nominate Dmitry Svatkovsky. Valery argued this choice by the fact that it was he who was close to the regional government. However, Oleg did not support such a candidacy.
Assassination attempt
Before Oleg got involved in politics, an attempt was made on his life. This happened after Oleg became the head of the Capital Nizhny Group of Companies. As the investigation notes, on December 1, 2003, Oleg's car on the highway from Nizhny Novgorod to Kasimov was shot by unknown persons.
According to investigative data, Sorokin was hit three times, due to which he underwent several complex surgical operations.
A little later, the deputy speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mikhail Dikin was recognized as the initiator of this attack on Oleg. Together with him, Mikhail's brother, who holds the post of police lieutenant colonel, was recognized as the organizer.
A family
Oleg's personal life and his love went well. His wife is Nagornaya Elada Lvovna, who is the daughter of the director of the Central Department Store. She was also the Director of Marketing and Advertising of the Stolitsa Nizhny Group of Companies and the Consul of Hungary on the territory of Nizhny Novgorod. Also, according to the results of 2013, she took first place among all the wives of Russian officials. Her annual income in 2013 was 1.5 billion. In the family of Oleg and Elada, there are two sons and one daughter - these are Elizaveta, Nikita and Danila. Nikita became a member of the LDPR party, and in 2016 he was elected a deputy of the regional legislature.
The life of her husband and father was also distinguished by charitable activities. At the beginning of 2015, Oleg, as part of his charitable work, provided 8 tons of food for further shipment to the South-East of Ukraine.
Arrest
On December 18, a case was initiated against Oleg under Article 165 of the Criminal Code of Russia. This article regulates the punishment for causing property damage. He was accused of receiving a bribe, being the mayor of the city, and not in money, but in property services. The size of such a property bribe was determined by the investigating authorities as particularly large.
A thorough search was carried out in Oleg's house, as a result of which more than 1.5 billion rubles were found in cash. The search in Oleg's apartment began on the night of December 19, and according to its results, Oleg was taken into custody until February 17, 2018.
