Kapoor Shakti is a famous Indian film actor. At the peak of the popularity of Indian cinema in the USSR, which came in the 80s, this actor appeared on domestic screens no less often than the young Philip Kirkorov or Alla Pugacheva. Throughout his acting career, Kapoor Shakti starred in more than 450 films, many of which were actively circulated in the film distribution and video salons of the USSR.
Shakti Kapoor was born on September 3, 1952, to a Punjabi family (the main population of the state of Punjab). His real name is Sunir Sikanderlal Kapoor.
Biography of the famous Indian actor
The future famous actor was born and raised in Delhi, in a large family. By the standards of India, their family was wealthy, since his father owned his own business - a sewing workshop. Sunir's mother was in charge of the household and raising children.
From childhood, Sunir was distinguished by a wayward character and unshakable willpower. He did not like to read, was expelled three times from different schools for gross violation of the rules of conduct. In addition, Sunir had frequent conflicts with his father. The reason for all the conflicts was the son's unwillingness to follow in his father's footsteps and continue their family business. Sunir did not want to run a sewing workshop all his life. He wanted to be engaged in tourism and dreamed of opening his own agency.
While in college, the young man moonlighted as a model. And after graduation, Kapoor managed to get a job at Mercury Travels and Asian Travel. Seeing the efforts of his son, Kapoor's father agreed to help him open his own agency. But at the last moment, he suddenly refused to help his son. This event was a turning point in Sunir's life. Realizing that his dream would not come true soon, he got a job in a local theater as an actor.
Creation
After working for some time in the theater of his hometown, Sunir decided to continue improving his acting skills and moved to the city of Pune. There he entered the Indian Film and Television Institute and was one of its top students.
In 1975, Kapoor got his first film role, starring in the movie "Two Detectives". This relay did not bring him success in cinema. For the next 5 years, he starred in various films, playing good characters, but these roles did not make him a famous actor.
In 1980, the famous Indian director Feroz Khan invited Sunir to play the role of the villain in his film Friends Forever. This role became fateful in the life of the actor, since after the release of the film on the screens, Kapoor began to be paid attention to as an excellent actor. In 1981, renowned Indian film actor and producer Sunil Dutt offered Sunir the role of villain in Rocky. At the same time, he advised Sunir to change his name to Shakti in order to better match the new role. Shakti Kapoor's success in this film has forever cemented him in the role of the "bad guy".
Between 1981 and 1990, the actor played villains in more than 50 films. And in the 1990s, Shakti decided to change his role, playing several comic roles in films such as "I Want to Marry the Millionaire's Daughter" (1994), "Raja Babu" (1994), "Gunda" (1998) and others. In 1995, the actor received the Filmfare Award for Best Comic Performance.
In 2005, the famous actor found himself at the center of a scandal: being under the influence of alcohol, he made several rude remarks about some Indian celebrities. However, a public apology helped him avoid a boycott by Indian filmmakers.
In 2011, the actor was invited to participate in the reality show "Big Boss". This project helped the Kapoor family create a positive image in the media, which finally helped to smooth out the 2005 scandal.
In addition to numerous filming in films, Shakti managed to play several significant roles in the theater. Thus, in 2010, he starred in the Indian theatrical performance "Aasman Se Gira Khajoor Pe Atka" with the famous actress Padmini Kolhapur. Two years after the premiere of the play, they played it on a tour in the United States.
Personal life
While working in the cinema, Shakti met the sister of the famous Indian actress Padmini Kolhapur, Shivangi. Later, strong feelings arose between them. The lovers decided to get married, but the Shivangi family opposed, because there was a big age difference between them (13 years). On January 12, 1982, Shivangi ran away from home, and the lovers were able to get married.
It is known that Shivanga's parents were able to accept the choice of their daughter only after the birth of their grandson, Siddhanta Kapoor. And later, the Kapoor couple had a daughter, Shraddha.
