On October 24, 2011, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the conditions for obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation were tightened. Now, in order to become a citizen of Russia, you need to obtain a residence permit.
To obtain a residence permit, you must have lived in Russia for at least a year with a temporary residence permit. However, it is rather difficult to obtain such a permit if the foreigner has no relatives who are Russian citizens and there is no way to present documents proving that the foreigner was born on the territory of the RSFSR. In this situation, it remains only to endlessly apply for inclusion in the quota of issuing permits for temporary residence in a particular subject of the Federation. The only way to obtain this document without delay is an employment contract with an employer in the territory of the Russian Federation.
You can apply for a temporary residence permit immediately after arriving in Russia at the FMS department, but you can also limit yourself to a visit to the consulate of our country in another state or go to the website www.gosuslugi.ru. All documents must be legalized and translated into Russian. In addition to identity documents confirming nationality (according to the Compatriots Resettlement Program) and family relations, income certificates will also be required. After all, our country is not obliged to provide foreigners with no means of subsistence (with the exception of incapacitated citizens who have the right to apply for Russian citizenship).
A year after obtaining a temporary residence permit, documents for obtaining a residence permit can be submitted to the FMS or through the website www.gosuslugi.ru. But not everyone can do this. And only those who have documents for the right to use the residential premises (purchase and sale or lease agreement), which should be worried about in advance. At least as long as a temporary residence permit is valid, which can be obtained only once for a period of three years.
And only after the residence permit is obtained, a foreigner will be able to apply for Russian citizenship, provided that he renounced the citizenship of another country, speaks Russian to the required extent and has no material problems.
