The World Health Organization publishes statistics annually on which country is the leader in drinking. Many people have a stereotype that Russia should come first, but this is not the case. Some nations drink more than Russians.
Moldavia
According to the latest data, it is this country that ranks first in the ranking of the most drinking countries. The assessment is carried out on average. One resident of Moldova accounts for more than 18 liters of alcohol per year. Wine production here is famous for its scale. Quality and quantity are roughly equal. The cultivation of vineyards has long been a tradition in Moldova. In the budget of this country there is a sector dedicated to alcoholism treatment. This nation drinks more than the Russians. In Russia, this figure does not reach more than 15.8 liters. Therefore, Russians occupy only fourth place in the ranking. Moldovans also rank first in a number of other bad habits, such as drug addiction and smoking.
Czech Republic
This European country ranks second in the alcohol consumption ranking. The indicator of 16.4 liters of alcohol per year is quite justified here. Brewing among Czechs is considered prestigious. Each self-respecting institution should have its own production in the basement. According to established tradition, the majority of residents, after a hard day's work, do not go home, but to the pub. You can skip a few beers there. Almost all native Prague people drink beer, preferring it to any other type of alcohol. Since Prague is considered one of the most visited tourist cities in the world, visitors only increase the average amount of alcohol consumed per year. In addition, the cost of beer here is on average 50 cents, which tempts tourists to spend a lot. Therefore, we can safely call the Czechs a nation that drinks more than the Russians.
Hungary
“Bronze” goes to this country for a reason. Each inhabitant annually consumes about 16, 3 liters of alcohol. Over a million Hungarians suffer from alcoholism. It is difficult to treat, therefore, from time to time, days of combating this addiction are organized here. The most popular drink in Hungary is beer. Its quality is at a rather low level, especially when compared with the Czech Republic. Therefore, Hungarians do not like to drink local drinks, preferring imported ones. Neighborhood with Western Ukraine allows for the exchange of goods. By the way, it is Ukraine that occupies the fifth line of the rating after Russia.
Germany
If we do not take into account the data of the World Health Organization, according to other sources, the Germans can be attributed to the nations that drink more than the Russians. The number of establishments with huge stocks of beer and wine is enormous. And the annual Oktoberfest, thanks to locals and tourists, brings Germany to the top of the list of alcohol consumption.
