During the war, Kosygin was engaged in the evacuation of factories, supplying Leningrad with food. In 1943, he became the head of the Council of People's Commissars, and in 1946 began to replace the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

Kosygin became the highest professional, but did not fight for power, ignored intrigues. He had a phenomenal memory, he could multiply multi-digit numbers in his mind. He conducted meetings very quickly, spoke to the point, avoiding lengthy discussions.

Stalin highly appreciated his qualities and considered Alexei Nikolaevich to be an ideal business executive. After the death of Generalissimo Kosygin was not removed, but he had a more modest position. He oversaw the production of consumer goods, later headed the Ministry of Food Industry, and then again began to replace the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

Under Brezhnev, Kosygin was appointed head of government, but Leonid Ilyich did not like him: Alexei Nikolaevich was the only one from the Politburo who was against the introduction of Soviet troops into Afghanistan. He died to solve problems with other countries, resolved the conflict with China, did a lot to host the Olympics in the USSR.

His industrial reforms were very successful. Thanks to Kosygin, the independence of enterprises expanded. However, his aspirations were opposed by officials of the old school, much could not be completed. In 1980, Kosygin resigned from his post due to deteriorating health, he died in the same year, he was 76 years old.
