Manufacturers of goods in the serial number encrypt information about their product. If you study the decoding of several serial codes, then in the future you can easily, with a certain amount of ingenuity, be able to decrypt the serial numbers of other products.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a look at the serial number of the product, it is usually found on the packaging or on the back or inside of the product. For the first example, let's take an iPhone (here the serial number is also listed in the settings menu). IPhone information is listed as XXNYYZZZMMT and each letter tells you specific product information.
XX is the identification number of the factory and the gadget itself.
N - year of manufacture (9 can mean 2009, 0 - 2010, etc.)
YY is the week in which it was produced
ZZZ - unique device ID
MM - iPhone model and color
T - the amount of memory (encrypted with a letter)
Step 2
The last three digits of the serial number that allow you to decipher the model, color and memory size may look like this:
VR0 (iPhone 2G Silver 4GB)
0KH (iPhone 2G Silver 16GB)
Y7H (iPhone 3G 8GB black)
Y7K (iPhone 3G 16GB Black)
3NQ (iPhone 3Gs White 16GB)
3NS (iPhone 3Gs White 32GB)
A4S (iPhone 4 Black 16GB)
A4T (iPhone 4 Black 32GB)
Step 3
But let's say you do not belong to fans or just users of Apple products and you are interested in information about another gadget. Consider decoding the serial number of a Panasonic DVD / Blu-ray device, which is in the YY7BA000001 format.
Step 4
YY is the plant code and the number of the conveyor or assembly line
7 - year of production, in our case 2007, other figures by analogy
B is the month of production. Panasonic assigns letters to the months in order. B is the second month, February
A - numbering of changes in the specification (A means that there were no changes, B - one, etc.)
000001 (possibly 00001) - serial number of the device
Step 5
Thus, having looked at two examples, you can see that, as a rule, in the serial number the manufacturer indicates information about the place and time of production, minimum characteristics (color, modification, memory capacity, etc.) and the serial number of the product. Deciphering the serial numbers of other devices will no longer seem unrealistic and difficult to you.
