The head of the family, Homer Simpson, is a roughly forty-year-old man whose job is to oversee the safety of the Springfield nuclear power plant. He does not shine with intelligence and upbringing, he prefers beer to all drinks, and television shows to entertainment.
By contrast, his wife Marge is a sophisticated and intelligent woman who has to work hard to fit the image of a simple housewife caring for children. However, she does not abandon attempts at self-improvement and even draws pictures.
Homer and Marge's eldest son is Bartholomew Simpson, who is simply called Bart. He is the quintessence of a teenager: disobedience, lack of life goals, a cynical view of the world - all these qualities are brought to perfection by him. Bart's sister Lisa, despite her young age, has a huge IQ, loves jazz music, thinks like an adult, and sometimes makes older family members feel complex. The youngest child in the family is Maggie, a one-year-old girl who still does not know how to walk and speak, constantly sucks a pacifier, wears a bow and knows how to shoot a pistol.

In addition to the main characters, there are many minor characters in the series. Some of them appear in almost every episode, and some (for example, guest stars or Mikhail Gorbachev) - one-time. Among the supporting characters, one of the most important is Homer's father Abraham Simpson.
