Biography and career
Tomita was born on January 27, 1966 in the large Japanese city of Okinawa. The actress grew up in the family of Shiro and Asako Tomita. Tomita has Filipino maternal roots. The actress's father was a police officer in Los Angeles. Tamlin was educated at Granada Hills High School.
At the beginning of her career, Tomita worked in the modeling business. In 1984, she won the title of beauty queen at the annual Nisei Week Pageant. She later won another title - Miss Nikkei International.
