The Trump surname was known in the United States even before one of the offspring of this family became the head of state. The head of the family, Fred Trump, thanks to his determination and perseverance, became one of the richest people in America, starting with a career as a messenger.
He became one of the prominent entrepreneurs in the construction and real estate business and has earned $ 300 million in capital.
Biography
Fred Trump was born in New York in 1905 in a family of immigrants from Bavaria. His father came to America during the gold rush and became a successful gold miner. After making money, he brought his wife, Elizabeth Christ, to the United States.
The Trump couple had three children, everyone in the house kept German customs and often spoke German. Children helped at home as best they could, and also earned money. So, Fred delivered products from the butcher's shop to customers.
The head of the family died early, and Elizabeth and Fred had to handle all the business. After school, he went to the construction site as a handyman, although at that time he was already engaged in the affairs of the company "Elizabeth Trump and Son." The widow was able to develop her company and teach Fred the basics of business.
As soon as Trump turned 18, he borrowed eight hundred dollars from his mother and built a house for sale. From this business, he managed to earn more than six thousand dollars, and then it became clear that he had the ability for business. Since then, he has come to grips with the construction of houses.
It's amazing how a young businessman caught the spirit of the times, fit into different projects and came up with his own. For example, when businessmen were winding down their businesses during the Great Depression, Trump built a huge self-service supermarket. This store helped the customer save money by keeping staff costs at a minimum. A year later, he sold the store and made a lot of money from it again.
During World War II, he also quickly rebuilt: he began building barracks for soldiers and apartments for officers. After the war he built houses for veterans. Such resourcefulness could only be envied. And each project brought a considerable profit to the businessman.
Serious business
Closer to the sixties, Fred realized that you can not only build housing, but also rent it out. Then he showed interest in real estate. He was interested in everything related to housing, and in every area of this business sector, he wanted to find the point of application that would help him earn money.
In business, he was tough, single-minded and strived to achieve maximum profit in any business. He did not risk without an accurate miscalculation of the case and invested money only in those projects that seemed promising to him.
In 1963, he began to implement a large-scale idea: the construction of a residential complex on Coney Island, in the south of Brooklyn. It cost Trump seventy million dollars.
By that time, the businessman had grown up children, and in 1968 Donald became his father's partner. In 1971, he already became president of a construction company, but still decided to find his own niche: to do a real estate business in Manhattan. His father supported his idea and gave the initial capital for business development in the amount of a million dollars. The son did not disappoint - he became a famous businessman, however, after some time.
This is not to say that everything was going smoothly for the Trumps and that everything was fine. Because of his toughness, he often put pressure on partners, and the newspapers wrote that he was speculating in government contracts. He was also accused of overstating the cost of construction work.
After some time, the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Donald - accused of violations against the black population of the country. Allegedly, the Trumps did not give housing to African Americans. As a rule, Fred came out of all the alterations without any losses. And even when he was arrested as a participant in the Kukluklan riots, he was released very quickly.
When his son Donald entered the business, he mainly worked in Manhattan: this area was his area of interest. Fred stayed in Brooklyn and did business where he had before.
In the last six years of his life, he did not work for health: he had Alzheimer's. In 1999, when he turned 93, he passed away in a medical center.
Personal life
Scot Mary Ann MacLeod became Fred Trump's wife in 1936. She gave birth to the businessman five children: two girls and three boys. Almost all of their offspring became significant figures in society: the eldest Marianne worked in court, Fred became a pilot, Elizabeth got a job at a bank, Donald was a partner of his father, and Robert was a property manager of the family company.
Subsequently, Donald distinguished himself more than Fred's other children: starting his career with the construction and renting of housing for rent, he reached the highest possible peak in the United States - he became president. Before he entered the White House as host, Donald tried his hand at the roles of TV presenter, writer and politician. And he successfully combined all this with business and always believed that he would achieve what he wanted. We can say that Trump Sr. brought up a worthy replacement.
Despite the fact that Fred put all his efforts on earning capital, he became a benefactor more than once. A Jewish hospital in Long Island and a hospital for special surgery in Manhattan received good funding from Trump. Not without his participation, the Jewish Center in New York was built: a businessman allocated land for his building. He also regularly funded Boy Scouts, The Salvation Army, and regular schools.
