Murat Gassiev is a Russian professional boxer, WBA and IBF world champion in the first heavyweight division. Has the nickname "Iron". Biography
Murat Georgievich Gassiev was born on October 12, 1993 in Vladikavkaz. Ossetian by nationality. His family had a modest income. Despite this, the mother and father strove to give Murat and his older brother a decent education. When the future boxer was eight years old, his father died. To feed her two sons, the mother worked in several places. However, the money was still barely enough for things and basic necessities. At the age of 13, Murat and his brother got a job on a construction site to help their mother and improve the financial situation of the family.
A year later, Gassiev became interested in boxing. Largely thanks to his older brother, who replaced his father. Murat also tried his hand at football and wrestling. However, he felt at ease only in the ring. Soon football and wrestling were abandoned, and Murat completely concentrated on boxing.
Career
Gassiev owes much of his brilliant career in the ring to the honored coach Vitaly Slanov. It was he who, in the mid-2000s, saw great boxing potential in a tall and strong young man. He invited Gassiev to classes at his club.
At the age of 17, Murat moved from Vladikavkaz to Chelyabinsk, which is known for a strong boxing school. A year later, Gassiev had his debut professional fight. In 2013, Murat won the WBC youth world championship by knocking out a fighter from Georgia Levan Dzhomardashvili in the final. Even then, it was clear that Gassiev was a fast-paced and explosive puncher in his boxing style.
Six months later, Gassiev won the IBF European Championship. He beat Ismail Abdul from Belgium on points. Soon Gassiev decided to move to California. In the same year, Murat knocked out Jordan Shimmell, a boxer from the States, in the first round. Preparing for this fight, he practiced sparring training. His rival was one of the most powerful punchers, the WBC heavyweight champion of the world American Deontay Wilder. He was preparing for a fight with Povetkin. It was from Deontay that Gassiev took over a lot.
In the States, he began training with Abel Sanchez for a duel with his fellow countryman - the eminent heavyweight Denis Lebedev. Murat was preparing intensively, as he counted on 12 rounds. His expectations were met. Gassiev had an excellent duel. In the fifth round, he "turned off" Lebedev with a blow to the liver. The show ended with Murat's triumph and winning the IBF World First Heavyweight Championship.
At the beginning of 2018, Murat knocked out Cuban Junier Dorticos in the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series. After the victory, Gassiev combined the IBF and WBA titles.
In July of the same year, the final battle of the tournament took place between Gassiev and Ukrainian Alexander Usik. The latter was declared the winner on points.
Personal life
Murat Gassiev is not married. In an interview, he noticed that his future wife may not be the most beautiful, but she must definitely be able to cook Ossetian pies.
