Director's biography

Roman Romanovich Kachanov was born on January 17, 1967 in the Soviet Union, in the Kuntsevsky district of Moscow, into an ordinary family of Soviet citizens. The boy's father Roman Abalevich Kachanov was engaged in directing and was one of the founders of puppet animation. Mom, bearing an amazing name - Gara, worked as an economist in an engineering bureau.

From childhood, little Roman grew up as a mischievous little boy, and, having matured, began to bully with the courtyard boys and often run away from home. In secondary school, Roman did not study well. At the age of 14, having somehow finished the eight-year-old, the wayward guy went to work. At first, he worked in the post office as a newspaper peddler, and then became an assistant to the famous Soviet science fiction writer Igor Vsevolodovich Mozheiko, better known by his pseudonym Kir Bulychev. He then advised Kachanov to graduate from evening school and go to directing courses.

Having received his education in 1989, Kachanov seriously took up creative activity. From under his pen numerous poems and plays, articles and stories are published, which subsequently will certainly be filmed.

In 1990, Roman Romanovich Kachanov tried himself as a director and shot a full-length film about the life of young people in the difficult "perestroika" time "Do not ask me about anything." This work of the director caused controversial responses in the cinematic world and a lot of negative critical reviews, so the premiere of the film on the big screen took place only five years after its creation. The following films by Roman Kachanov, many of which are just as fiercely rejected by the public, ultimately become iconic and are included in the list of the best Russian films.
