The story of the anime and the story of the appearance of cats in the anime began at the same time. Back in 1929, the three-minute musical "Black Cat" was created, considered the first anime in which the sound was synchronized with the image. Since then, many anime series and feature films have been shot about cats. In addition, all sorts of fantastic creatures endowed with feline features often appear in anime.
In 1989, a full-length anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, The Kiki's Delivery Service, was released. The main character of the film is the 13-year-old witch Kiki. Of course, like any witch, Kiki has a black cat - her friend and assistant Dzi-Dzi. According to the plot, Dzi-Dzi meets his love - the white kitty Lily. At the end of the film, an addition appears in the cat family.
In 1997, the 25-episode anime series "Hyperpolice" was filmed. It takes place in the city of the future Shinjuku, inhabited by people and fantastic creatures. One of the central characters of the series is the cat-girl Sasahara Natsuki.
One of the more distinctive cat animes is Makoto Shinkai's first film, She and Her Cat (1999). It is a five-minute short that Shinkai drew in Photoshop on his home computer. The history of the relationship between the cat and its owner is shown through the eyes of the cat Tebi, whose role was voiced by Shinkai himself.
Fabulous and fantastic anime about cats
The eerie surreal anime film "Cat Soup" about the misadventures of the cat family was created in 2001 based on the work of the suicide artist Nekojiru.
One of the most famous "cat" anime is called "The Return of the Cat" (2002). This is a fabulous story about a girl who saved a cat who turned out to be a cat prince from death, and almost remained a cat herself forever. One of the main characters of the film is the revived toy cat Baron, who previously appeared in the 1995 anime "Whisper of the Heart".
One of the most popular anime characters is the robot cat Doraemon, about whom 28 full-length and 8 short-length cartoons have been filmed. The most popular is the series "Doraemon" (2005), which has already 300 episodes.
In 2009, filming of the anime series "Cat's Whims" began. This is an amazing story about how a boy suffering from a chronic allergy to cats and accidentally breaking a statue of a feline deity is forced to fulfill the wishes of a hundred cats so as not to turn into a cat himself.
Cats in the modern anime world
Heroes of the 2010 anime series "Invasion of Stray Cats" run a small pastry shop called "Stray Cat". Of course, their house is full of cats, which, however, do not bring much benefit.
And finally, the romantic comedy of 2012 "The Cat from Sakuraso", the main character of which picked up seven cats on the street. Because of this, the young man has to move from an ordinary student dormitory, where they are not allowed to keep pets, to a very strange place called Sakuraso.
The world of anime is inhabited by a huge number of all kinds of cats and cats, and every year the number of representatives of the feline family in it is steadily increasing.
