In 1996, by analogy with the Hollywood Golden Raspberry Award, the Silver Galosh award was established in Russia. Its presentation ceremonies, organized by the Silver Rain radio station, are held annually in Moscow.
The initiative to create the playful Silver Galosh award in 1996 belongs to radio host and producer Pavel Vashchekin. The second word in the title of the award is taken from the text of the Russian folk proverb “to sit in a galosh”, which means to go nuts, to make a mistake. It is awarded for the worst achievements in show business and politics.
The Silver Galoshes nominations change every year, the only thing that remains unchanged is Plagiarism, which did not exist only in 2012. Otherwise, the names of the categories are determined according to the achievements of each specific year and are based on the press releases of the Silver Rain radio station. They often reflect the most pressing events.
The Silver Galoshes presentation ceremony takes place in June on the stage of a theater or a concert hall. Over the years, the prize was awarded in the theaters of the Mossovet, Operetta, and the Pushkin Cinema and Concert Hall. In 2012, she took place at the Theater of the Russian Army. Well-known representatives of show business with a reputation for witches are usually chosen as presenters of the action. Over the years, they were Tatyana Lazareva, Ivan Urgant, Mikhail Shats, Alexander Tsekalo, Nelly Uvarova. Often this role is played by the actor and producer Andrei Fomin, since 2009 the show has been constantly hosted by Ksenia Sobchak.
You cannot get to the ceremony just like that, it is a closed event, to which invitations are sent in advance. They are received by celebrity representatives of show business, as well as friends of the radio station and its partners. Ordinary citizens can get into the hall only thanks to their luck, having won tickets on the air of "Silver Rain".
