NATO is the largest military-political bloc in the world, which unites the States, Canada and most of the states of Europe. It was founded in 1949 by the Americans to save the Old World from the influence of the Soviet Union. Entering this block is a long, long-term procedure, but if necessary, it can be shortened, though not by much.
When will Ukraine be admitted to NATO
In the short term, Ukraine does not have a chance of joining the North Atlantic Alliance. There are many good reasons for this. We can safely say that over the past months Ukraine has been in a state of civil war, and also has certain territorial problems. According to the NATO charter, such a state cannot apply to join the military-political bloc.
NATO troops in Ukraine: to be or not to be
The new self-proclaimed government of Ukraine, by hook or by crook, is trying to join the ranks of NATO as soon as possible. So, in March 2014, a bill was introduced to the Verkhovna Rada that supports the entry of Kiev into the bloc. This project provides for the introduction of amendments to some Ukrainian laws, according to which the entry into NATO and Euro-Atlantic integration is formalized.
The bloc itself has long confirmed Ukraine's right to be a member of the organization, but this will only happen if two conditions are met - the country must meet the requirements of the Alliance, and the Ukrainians want such an accession. The list of requirements is impressive. Not to have internal conflicts and territorial problems - these are only the main requirements of the bloc.
In addition, Ukraine must take part in joint exercises with NATO and implement the so-called Action Plan. The latter is compiled for each state on an individual basis. However, in any case, this Plan has many points. One of them is the presence of modern weapons, which Ukraine is currently unable to boast of.
