Biography
Dmitry Pavlovich Zuev is a native of the Borovsk district of the Kaluga province. He was born there in 1889. Dmitry Pavlovich knew and loved his native nature well, he glorified it in his unique works.
The boy's talent was noticed back in 1900. An essay on nature was written by him so interesting that this work was sent to Paris for the World Exhibition.
When Dmitry grew up, he worked as a clerk, teacher, journalist, accountant. Then he was passionately engaged in phenology, studied nature, loved to hunt.
During the Great Patriotic War, the partisans, in addition to food and the necessary household kit, were delivered Zuev's leaflets. In them, Dmitry Pavlovich wrote about what food can be found in the forest. This knowledge greatly helped the defenders of the Fatherland.
Creation
Dmitry Pavlovich has written several books. And his famous work "Gifts of the Russian Forest" was reprinted 5 times, so it turned out to be in demand.
Also on the account of the talented prose writer are the books: "The Life of the Forest" and "The Seasons". The latter is a collection of valuable notes on Central Russian nature. A talented phenologist made a great contribution to the description of the world around him. The book is divided into 12 chapters, each dedicated to a specific month. The uniqueness of the work is also in the fact that the information for this work was obtained by personal experience, long-term observations. Dmitry Pavlovich wrote not only books, but also small printed works. Then they were published in the almanac "Hunting Spaces".
These works were published from 1950 to 1959. In them, a talented observer spoke in detail about the hunting birds of the Moscow region, said who is the chief doctor of the forest. Zuev published the observations of the hunter, described mother winter, and other seasons.

Contemporaries about Zuev
As Lev Kolodny wrote, Dmitry Zuev was the son of a peasant and a descendant of the lord's huntsmen. Over time, Dmitry Pavlovich gave up his office work, went on an independent voyage. Before his campaigns, Zuev bought bread and salt, and he got everything else - fish, berries, meat, mushrooms in the forest.
The talented phenologist died in 1967. He was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery with his family.
