From the biography of Georgy Guryanov

The future musician and artist was born in Leningrad on February 27, 1961. George's parents were geologists. Even before entering school, the boy became interested in music. He attended a circle at the Kozitsky House of Culture, where he mastered the piano, domra, balalaika and guitar. Even then, Guryanov was an admirer of the Led Zeppelin group. Seeing Georgy's passion for rock, his teacher recommended studying music for at least 8 hours a day - in order to gain the necessary experience.

At an early age, George showed interest in the visual arts. He graduated from art school, and later entered the art school. V. Serov, but he studied there for only a year without completing his special education.

Since the late 70s, Guryanov lived in the capital of the country. In the 80s he traveled a lot around the world, visited Rome, Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin. Studied Spanish in Cervantes's homeland. But the hometown for the artist and musician has always been Peter. For a long time he lived in the center of the city, on Liteiny.

Career as a musician and talented artist

In his youth, Guryanov worked in the team of Sergei Semenov, playing the bass guitar. Then he moved to the group of Andrey Panov, helped to record the part of percussion instruments for the People's Militia. Guryanov also sat in the place of the drummer in the "Games" collective. Then Guryanov received the pseudonym "Gustav".

A new stage in Georgy's musical career began in 1982, when fate brought him together with Viktor Tsoi. In the group "Kino" Guryanov settled in two years, was engaged in arrangements, played drums, tried himself in backing vocals. As part of the famous St. Petersburg team, Guryanov worked until its collapse, which occurred in 1990 after the tragic death of Tsoi.

Experts consider the manner of playing Guryanov to be very peculiar: he played on the drum set not sitting, but standing. He took an example in this from his beloved Western "new romantics".

Possessing the technique of painting, Guryanov already in 1982 became carried away by the ideas of the avant-garde. He was attracted by the so-called "zero-culture", whose adherents tried to find the true essence of things behind external meanings.

In the midst of perestroika, Guryanov joined the circle of artists of the so-called "new academicism", one of the founders of which was T. Novikov. Many of Gustav's works have been exhibited more than once both in the artist's homeland and abroad. There were also personal exhibitions. One of the directions that Guryanov developed was sports stories full of dynamism. In 2016, analysts, evaluating the work of Guryanov, admitted that he can be considered one of the most "expensive" masters of the last decade.

Guryanov's health was undermined by diseases: hepatitis was found to be complicated by oncology of the pancreas and liver. In 2013, the musician was discharged from the clinic in St. Petersburg, after which he was treated in Germany, and then was in a serious condition at home. In the summer of the same year, Guryanov passed away. It happened on July 20. The ashes of Georgy Konstantinovich rest at the Smolensk cemetery of the city on the Neva.
