Alexander Sergeevich Balandin is a famous Russian athlete, gymnast, Honored Master of Sports of Russia, member of the Russian national artistic gymnastics team.
Biography
Alexander Balandin is a gymnast who was born on June 20, 1989 in Karelia, namely in Petrozavodsk. Since childhood, Sasha loved to play sports, and at the age of 5 his mother sent him to the gymnastics section. Sasha always showed the will to win and worked hard.
Carier start
Very soon Sasha achieved excellent results and was able to reach the highest level of professionalism, he took part in international competitions, already in 2007 Sasha took 3rd place at the World Cup. At the 10th World Cup, which was held in Moscow, Sasha took first place, and in the 11th year he became the winner of the Russian Championship.
In the 12th year, at the European Championship, Alexander took 2nd place. In Balandin's sports career, there are no victories at the Olympic Games: Sasha wanted to get into the list of participants, but gave up his place to Konstantin Pluzhnikov.
Serious injury
Unfortunately, speaking at the Russian Cup, which was held in Yekaterinburg, Balandin landed unsuccessfully and received a thighbone injury, the athlete had to withdraw from the competition. Alexander survived two major surgeries, which passed without problems.
After the operations, Sasha was sent to the Moscow sanatorium. Balandin quickly recovered and continued to train in his previous form. After the restoration, Alexander complicated his performance program, complicating some of the elements.
Performance at the Olympics
The most crucial moment in Balandin's career was approaching - the Olympic Games, which were held in England, in the 12th year, it was Sasha who became the main candidate for participation. Unfortunately, the athlete did not win a single medal at this Olympics.
Judges, athletes and spectators unanimously argued that Alexander deserved a silver medal. At this Olympiad, Alexander took only 4th place, the victory was very close.
Second Olympic Games
In 2014, at the European Championships, Balandin won two gold medals, one in the individual competition and the other in the team competition. After the competition, Alexander had to undergo surgery, the past injury took its toll.
After the operation, Sasha returned to training, but spent them halfway through. The Olympics, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, in the 16th year, should have been forgotten. Sasha understood that this was the last chance to get to the Olympics, Balandin ended his sports career.
