While the debate about the upcoming release of the series about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia from Netflix does not subside, it is time to recall the basis of the basics - the book cycle by A. Sapkowski "The Witcher".
The Witcher Saga is a book series by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The cycle is written in the dark fantasy genre. The first story about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia was published in 1986, and the last novel in 2013. But as part of the Warsaw Comic-Con 2018, the author announced that he was working on a new book.
The fans can only wait patiently and hope, and the newcomers just need to plunge into the dangerous, but addictive world of The Witcher!
- Last wish
- Sword of Destiny
The first two books are collections of stories. Each story is a complete work. Ideal for a first acquaintance: you can immediately understand whether you like the world, the author's syllable and the characters of the cycle themselves.
Further (starting with the third part) the books are already full-fledged novels with a cross-cutting global plot.
- Elven blood
- An hour of contempt
- Baptism by fire
- Swallow Tower
- Lady of the Lake
"Lady of the Lake" puts an end to the great adventure of Geralt, Ciri and other heroes of the saga.
In 2013, almost 10 years after the release of the last part, "Season of Thunderstorms" was published. The novel is not a sequel to "Lady of the Lake", its action takes place between stories from the collection "The Last Wish". It is recommended to read after reading previous novels.
Also A. Sapkovsky in 1988 wrote the story "The Road without Return", which is a prequel to the main story. BUT! It is also preferable to read it after all the novels, otherwise it is highly likely that you will not understand anything.
"Something Ends, Something Begins" (1993) is a joke story that is not included in the canon of "The Witcher" and has great contradictions with the main plot. The work was written by Sapkowski at the request of his fan club. The story will allow you to meet again and laugh with your favorite characters.
