Children easily manage to shift the attention of an adult to a new topic. This is achieved by vivid expression of the emotions that the child pours out on the interlocutor. Among adults, violent emotionality is not always appropriate, so you have to start a new topic from afar, having previously prepared the ground for communication.

Step 1
Be friendly. If you do not know how to do this, visit your friends who have a dog. See how the dog wags its tail, looks into the eyes. I would like to stroke him, to be near, but he did not say a single word. Learn to subtly connect with others using a smile and an attentive gaze.
Step 2
Show concern. The interlocutor may not be ready to communicate on the desired topic. A person may be cold, or he is hungry, or his thoughts are busy with an important problem, something worries. Try to grasp the state of your neighbor and support with a caring gesture and attention. Maybe at the moment you need to delicately leave. In any case, if conversation is possible, participation will be appreciated.
Step 3
Let the other person speak. A person is not ready to listen if he is passionate about sharing something. It's like a full glass: in order to pour a new portion of the drink into it, you need to get rid of the contents.
Step 4
Ask an appropriate question that will bridge you to the desired topic of conversation. To build a bridge, you need to find support in the communication that has begun. Hang on to something and notice that there is pertinent news. You can ask if the interlocutor wants to give an opinion on one case.
Step 5
Get the conversation back on track. If you see that a person is inclined to talk, tell me what you came for. Stay polite, considerate, and courteous. People will not want to deal with a person who sucks up to get attention, so sincerity and openness are needed.
