One of the most beautiful, touching and gentle Juliet that the audience has ever seen and which they still remember is the actress Olivia Hussey. For this role, she received a Golden Globe for Best Debutante of the Year. And even without this award, fans immediately fell in love with her in the image of Juliet.
Biography
Olivia Hussey was born in 1951 in Buenos Aires in the family of an opera artist. Her father was a professional tango dancer and was often invited to various theaters in Argentina to take part in productions. Perhaps this was the reason for the divorce of Olivia's parents. She hardly remembers her Argentine childhood, because her mother, at a young age, transported her and her brother to England, to London.
Olivia has always been a brave girl: at the age of four, she began to play different roles, not yet realizing that she wanted to become an actress. But when she turned seven, and her mother took her to audition for film school, she said with confidence that she would be a great actress and that they should give her a chance.
Unfortunately, there was no money to pay for school, but Olivia was not upset: having matured a little, she went to work as a model and began to earn not only for her education, but also for her family.
Career in cinema and theater
The first film in Hussey's portfolio was Manchester United. This is a film about a football club, where Olivia played a cheerleader and had to portray boundless dedication to her beloved team. The work was familiar to the young actress, and she coped with the role perfectly.
The theater impresario invited Olivia to work in the theater, and soon she was already on the same stage with Vanessa Redgrave. So her childhood dream came true: to stand on stage and see the admiring glances of the audience, to feel their reaction. However, she received all the new proposals for filming a movie, and the actress faced a serious choice. After a little thought, she chose a movie.
In 1966, she had to go through a real test in the form of casting for the role in "Romeo and Juliet". It is not known how the director Franco Zeffirelli saw the heroine of his film, but each of the eight hundred actresses who came to the screening believed that the role should only go to her. And it was necessary to get used to the character so as to convince the great maestro and get the role.
Fifteen-year-old Olivia was perfect for the image of Juliet, and Zeffirelli could not help but notice it. After filming, viewers around the world learned the names of the actors who played Romeo and Juliet, and Leonard Whiting and Olivia gave endless interviews to reporters. It was a deafening glory for which the young girl was not ready.
And she made a big mistake: she left for her mother's house and no longer accepted offers to shoot. She later regretted it, but it was too late.
After some time, Hussie returned to the cinema, but she had to start all over again, so she got different roles, sometimes in "walk-through" films.
However, the actress did not despair - she dreamed of great roles, and one day her dream came true: she played the main character in the film "Mother Teresa" (2003). After this role, she played in several more films, and for the future the actress also has creative plans - new films and roles.
Personal life
During the filming of Romeo and Juliet, the young actress fell in love with the director, but could not show her feelings to him. Partner on the site Leonard Whiting tried to look after her, but she did not reciprocate.
While Olivia was staying with her mother, she met musician Dean Martin and married him. In this marriage, the actress has a son, Martin, who also became an actor. The family of the actress and musician did not last long, they divorced, and after that Olivia returned to the cinema.
The financial situation was unstable, and the actress was again helped by director Zeffirelli, inviting her to his film.
Olivia's second marriage happened to Akira Fuse, a Japanese singer. The couple had a son, Maximilian, but this marriage also broke up.
Suddenly, a single woman with two children found happiness in the face of rock singer David Glen Eisley. The young people got married and had a daughter, India Joy. For his wife, David gave up music and became Hussey's manager.
Now they all live together on a large farm, do the farming and make creative plans.
