A sculpture can be made from a variety of materials. From the simplest, such as plasticine and clay, to the extremely complex, such as granite, bronze, ironwood. It can take years or just an hour to create. It all depends on the task that you set for yourself.
It is necessary
Sculptural plasticine, a piece of plywood sheet, aluminum wire, pliers, wooden stacks
Instructions
Step 1
Come up with an idea for your sculpture. In order to clearly imagine it, a light sketch on a sheet of paper with a simple pencil can help.
Decide on the size of the sculpture, and the material. Plasticine is suitable for a beginner. Unlike clay, plasticine does not dry out or harden, and the work can be done for a long time. The height will fit somewhere around 30 centimeters.
Saw off a sheet of plywood 15 by 15 centimeters. This will be the pedestal for your sculpture.
Make a frame with thick aluminum wire. Bend the bottom ends of the frame and nail them firmly to the plywood. The frame should follow the movement of your future sculpture and match its proportions.
Step 2
Cover the frame with plasticine. Sketch the main masses of your sculpture. Pull the frame well, the plasticine should grip it tightly.
Work the shape with sculpted wood stacks. After typing the main masses and adjusting the proportions, clarify the details.
Find the salient features.
Walk around the sculpture, look from above and below. The sculpture should look from all angles. Unlike the drawing, the sculpture is three-dimensional. Don't forget this. Constantly check the part that you are sculpting from all sides.
Take a close look at the sculpture. Its parts must be balanced. It should not fall forward, neither backward nor sideways. Trace the anchor points of the sculpture.
Find the axis of symmetry. Check if your sculpture is symmetrical. Trust your eye, but remember to check your measurements with a compass or a stack.
Step 3
Find the compositional center of the sculpture. If you are doing a human figure, then most likely it will be a face.
Work your focal point more carefully. Stick details. Also, but with smaller details to stick details in the whole sculpture. These can be folds of clothing, buttons, a belt, or animal hair.
See if the details have broken the main shape of the shape. If somewhere you see that you are too carried away by the details, overdone, summarize them slightly with your finger or a stack.
If the sculpture is a success and you like it very much, you may want to consider immortalizing it. Plasticine is not a reliable material. The easiest way is to cast it in plaster or bronze. Well, the most beautiful and difficult to sculpt in marble.
Good luck and success in your work!
