Increased combat readiness, courage, the ability to endure serious hardships and is far from their homeland and loved ones - this is what distinguishes those who have chosen the profession of a sailor. Those who daily raise their nets on board the ship and those who crammed the charter of the maritime service can rightfully call themselves sailors and servants of the water element.

If you are overwhelmed by the dream of the water surface, have good health and dream of becoming a sailor, it is enough to take a year's course at a maritime school. A more serious specialty of a naval officer is acquired in special nautical educational institutions. Official sailors, as a military unit, appeared in the 17th century with the creation of the Russian Navy, a special role in the history of which, no doubt, was assigned to the Marine Corps.

Interestingly, the first marines appeared during the time of Peter the Great, who ordered the creation of the first regiment of this kind on the basis of the Baltic Fleet.

Marines

The Marines are one of the most elite and significant troops of the navy, requiring serious military training and involved in special operations related to the water element and the protection of the state's maritime borders. Marines are a kind of universal soldiers, whose service features dictate the need to perform a wide variety of tasks, ranging from participating in sea battles and taking enemy ships on board, ending with airborne assault to perform special operations on land.

Over time, the area of their actions expanded from simple guarding on the border of the country to special operations associated with long-term crossings of water spaces and the abolition of enemy anti-amphibious defense. Not only military actions are not complete without the participation of the Marines, these troops were involved in the Russian-Turkish battles, won numerous victories in the war with France, during the Great Patriotic War, the marines participated in operations related to the defense of Leningrad and Stalingrad, fought for Murmansk and Odessa, reached Berlin itself and continued on their way as the liberators of many European states.

Unfortunately, this is where the history of the Marines in the Soviet Union ends: this unit was reinstated as active only in 1960.

The marines today serve in absolutely all divisions of the Russian fleet, are equipped with the most modern weapons, have special equipment and state-of-the-art installations at their disposal.

Sailors

The concept of a sailor is broader than a marine. Seafarers are all those people who carry out labor activities or serve (watch) on sea vessels. And it's funny, but the sailor does not have to go to sea, it is enough just to be a member of the crew or be listed as support personnel.

Usually sailors are called navigators, pilots, captains or sailors of sea-going ships. Sailors are both those who are on combat duty on military ships, and those who carry out transportation by sea.

A more precise concept - a naval sailor - these are those people who do military service or serve on a contract basis on military ships. They are not called upon to carry out special operations and participate in hostilities only as part of the combined arms formations of the navy.
