Gas masks are used to protect the respiratory and visual organs of an adult from the effects of toxic substances. Such a device is widely used for the needs of personnel of GO groups, helps to reduce the danger of the influence of radioactive dust, bacterial agents in a gaseous state, and protects against poisoning.
In Russia, the first gas mask was created in 1915, it was invented by the scientist N. I. Zelensky. The device consisted of a rubber mask and a filter box filled with activated carbon. Currently, schoolchildren are studying the purpose of gas masks while mastering the subject of life safety.
What can a gas mask protect from?
Gas masks are able to protect against the work of strong toxic substances - hydrogen sulfide, tetraethyl lead, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, phenol, and various hazardous compounds. The first gas masks consisted of a rubber mask, two eyepieces for visibility, and a cylindrical filter.
For the first time, a protective agent began to be used during the First World War. During the battle, opponents could use not only firearms, but also chemicals with a damaging effect. The purpose of the use was to provide protection for the eyes, skin, respiratory organs.
You can buy gas masks in organizations that sell personal protective equipment. All the necessary information regarding the use should be obtained from a consultant before making a purchase.
What does the protective agent consist of?
A modern gas mask is made up of such departments as the front part, equipped with a device for negotiating, as well as a filter-absorbing box. An additional package includes a bag in which the gas mask is stored and carried, and films made of anti-fog material. Some models are additionally equipped with a device that allows you to drink water from an army flask without removing the gas mask before.
The filter box purifies the air that the owner breathes from harmful vapors. For manufacturing, aluminum alloys or tin are used. The box is made in the form of a cylinder. In the upper part there is a neck, with the help of which the device is connected to the facial section. At the bottom there is a hole through which air enters during inhalation. The openings are sealed for the storage period using special caps with a rubber gasket.
The front section is a mask, which is equipped with observation glasses like glasses. To ensure the transparency of the viewing department in any weather, insulating cuffs and anti-fog films are used. Front part composition:
- Mask with an independent shutter.
- Membrane for negotiations.
- Survey glasses.
- Exhalation and inspiration valve assemblies.
- Headrest fixing the front part.
- Cowl.
- Pressure rings that help fix the anti-fog film.
The selection of personal protective equipment is carried out according to the results of measurements of the head circumference (vertical and horizontal).
