The title "Veteran of Labor" was first introduced on the territory of the Soviet Union in 1974. It was awarded to citizens who achieved certain labor success and had the necessary work experience: 25 years for men and 20 years for women. In Soviet times, the title of labor veteran was perceived as an honorary award, a distinctive sign of a long and successful labor activity. In addition, this title gave its owner significant benefits. Over time, the legislation and the procedure for conferring the title have changed, but some benefits remain to this day. Step 1
It should be noted that until January 2005 the title "Veteran of Labor" was awarded on the basis of the Federal Law "On Veterans". The assignment of this title was in the sphere of competence of the federal authorities and the financing of benefits for veterans was carried out at the expense of the federal budget. But in 2004, the legislators decided to transfer this issue to the mercy of the regional authorities, and now each constituent entity of the Russian Federation has adopted its own legislation in this area. In this regard, today, unfortunately, there is no universal algorithm of actions aimed at obtaining the title of veteran.

The fact is that a number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation have largely adopted the provisions of the invalid Federal Law "On Veterans" and, in general, have retained the previous procedure for obtaining this title on their territory. The previous procedure is that in order to obtain the title of veteran, it is necessary to have a long work experience (as a rule, 25 years for men and 20 years for women), have awards or distinctions for achievements in work and live for a long time in the territory of the region.

In a number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, the procedure for conferring the title of veteran has undergone significant changes, for example, to obtain it there is no need to have awards and distinctions, only the established length of service is sufficient.
