Biography
Gerasim Ivanov was born on March 17, 1918 in the Moscow region. in an Old Believer family. Graduated from the art studio of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he was drafted into the army. Served in the Moscow historical barracks, then in the 6th automobile company. He was engaged in the design of exhibition weapons, depicting military posters with patriotic texts. After the war, he assisted in the restoration of frescoes in the churches of Minsk. In the 50s, Gerasim worked in the Cathedral as an artist - restorer of paintings. In the period from 1951 to 1954 he studied at the Moscow educational institution for the preparation of Christian clergy. At the end of 1975 he was ordained to the rank of deacon, and on February 25, 1976 - to the priesthood.
2002 Priest Gerasim served as a freelance reader of the Cathedral of St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki, and enjoyed special respect among the believers.
2008 was marked by the fact that priest Gerasim celebrated his ninety anniversary. He served on this day as a bishop in the Holy Danilov Church. Bishop Alexy personally expressed words of gratitude and congratulations to the archpriest, presented a letter to the righteous prince Daniel.
Priest Gerasim was a respected cleric of the church at the Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Gerasim dedicated his personal life to the church and serving God.
He passed away on December 6, 2012 when he was 94 years old. For the moment of death, he was the oldest priest in Moscow monasteries.
The funeral service was performed on December 8, 2012 in the Cathedral of St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki, headed by Savva Voskresensky, the chief bishop of Moscow and All Russia. Buried at the Preobrazhensky cemetery.

He painted the Cathedral of the Epiphany of the Lord, the Novodevichy Convent, the Orthodox Church of Christ the Savior, painted the Church of Michael the Archangel at the residence of the Patriarch, worked in the Cathedral of the Academy of the General Staff. His icon-painting works adorn the Orthodox cathedrals of New Athos, Serbia, Czech Republic.
