From the history of the Red Cross in Russia
The Red Cross Society is founded in the last spring month of 1867. But its name was slightly different from the current one. At that time, the charitable organization was known as the Russian Society for the Active Care of the Wounded and Sick Warriors. The patrons of the society were two of the wisest women of the Russian Empire - Empress Maria Alexandrovna and the wife of Emperor Alexander II. After a while, namely in 1925, the society was renamed the Union of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. During World War II, the Union of Societies already had its own comfortable hospitals and the best anti-epidemic units, was actively involved in the then humanitarian policy.
Perhaps you did not know that it was with the money of this charitable organization that one of the most famous children's camps "Artek" was built during the Soviet era. After the collapse of the USSR, the Union of Societies became known as the Russian Red Cross.
