The main purpose of the ring roads is to reduce the load on the transport routes of a large city. In Russia, there is such a highway, for example, in Moscow. It is called the Moscow Ring Road and its length is simply enormous.

What is the length of the Moscow Ring Road

The Moscow Ring Road was put into operation in the mid-50s of the last century. Initially, this road had only 4 lanes - two in each direction. But in the 90s, the Moscow Ring Road was expanded and today cars move along this highway in 10 lanes.

What is the length of the Moscow Ring Road

Kilometer zero of the Moscow ring road is located at its intersection with the Entuziastov highway. From here, the counting of the length of the line begins. Specific places on this road are determined in kilometers - "at 50 km of the Moscow Ring Road", at "90 km of the Moscow Ring Road", etc.

According to official data, the total length of the Moscow ring road is 108.9 km. But some car enthusiasts believe that this data is somewhat inaccurate. According to the estimates of car owners, the length of the Moscow Ring Road is about 110 km.

The explanation for such discrepancies in the data is quite simple. The width of the Moscow Ring Road is very large. Therefore, the length of its inner ring will in any case be slightly less than the outer one.

Track statistics

For a long time, the Moscow Ring Road coincided with the administrative boundaries of the capital. But in the 80s of the last century, Moscow began to include, among other things, residential areas located behind this highway. Thus, the administrative border of the capital of the Moscow Ring Road today can only be considered conditionally.

Initially, the throughput of the ring highway was not particularly large. But after the expansion of the road, this figure increased greatly. At the moment, the throughput of the Moscow Ring Road exceeds 9 thousand vehicles per hour.

This figure is, of course, huge. But for such a large city as Moscow, such an indicator, unfortunately, can be considered insufficient. In any case, traffic jams on the Moscow Ring Road are formed very often.

Not only cars and trucks go along this route. Established on the Moscow Ring Road and bus traffic. More than 50 city routes transports people along this highway in different directions. But there is public transport on the Moscow Ring Road, unfortunately, not in all areas.

As already mentioned, there are 10 traffic lanes on the modern MKAD - 5 in each direction. At the same time, the main 8 lanes are 3.75 m wide. Two additional lanes, laid in both directions, are considered transitional and high-speed. Their width is 4.5 m.

From the zero kilometer in the capital, the Moscow Ring Road is at a distance of 12-18 km in different places. The maximum permitted travel speed on this road is 100 km / h.

At the moment, this highway connects absolutely all radial routes of the capital. Interesting is, among other things, the fact that the kilometer posts on the Moscow Ring Road are located at different distances. In some cases, they are 1200-1800 m apart from each other, in others - no more than 700 m.
