Biography
Born 1964 in Seattle, Washington. Father Edward Boyle worked as a pharmacist. From birth he bore his father's surname, but after the divorce of his parents, he changed it to his maternal maiden name Cornell. The family had six children, Chris was the youngest of three sons.
At the age of 9, I accidentally found several musical records, one of them contained recordings of the Beatles' songs. Interest in this group had a great influence on his work.
He attended a Catholic elementary school, where he got his first vocal experience, participating in the school choir. When he was in seventh grade, his mother had to take Chris out of the Catholic school, the reason was excessive curiosity.
During adolescence, he experiences several periods of depression. From the age of 12 he has been fond of using drugs. He tried to quit several times, but after a few months of sobriety he started to use again. He managed to achieve a stable remission with the help of playing musical instruments. He later stated that buying a drum kit saved his life.
Career
In 1980 he joined the group The Shemps, performing with them in Seattle.
In 1984 he created the legendary band Soundgarden. In 1988, the band's debut album, Ultramega OK, was released. After its release, the album received restrained reviews from critics, but enjoys great success with listeners. The album was awarded a Grammy in 1990.
In 1991, the famous album Badmotorfinger was released, which had incredible success with the public.
In 1994, the equally successful Superunknown album was released.
In 1997, Cornell stopped working with the group and began recording a solo album, released in 1999. The album was not a commercial success, but was highly praised by critics.
From 2001 to 2007 he took part in the new project Audioslave. The band released three albums, which were warmly received by critics. Leaves the group due to creative differences.
After leaving, he is engaged in solo projects. In 2009 he released the album Scream, which was coldly received by fans due to a radical change in the style of music.
Personal life
In 1985 begins a relationship with Susan Silver, who at that time worked as the manager of the group. The couple formalized the relationship after 5 years of marriage, in 1990. In 2000, they had a daughter. The couple divorced in 2004, the court proceedings related to the division of property lasted 4 years.
In the same year he married Vicky Karayanis, a few months later the couple had a daughter, and a year later a son.
Chris Cornell died in May 2017. During the investigation, it was established that his death was due to strangulation, the police recognized his death as a suicide. The farewell ceremony was attended by some of the rock stars with whom Chris was on friendly terms.
