Thomas Olsson is a Swedish mountaineer and extreme skier, conqueror of many mountains, including Everest. He crashed in the Chomolungma mountains at the age of 30.
early years
Tom Olsson was born on March 18, 1976 in the small Swedish town of Kristinehamn, later the family moved to Boras. There, Thomas studied well at school, additionally went in for sports and participated in various sports.
Education
After graduating from school, Tom entered Lipcheping University, studied engineering, did not give up sports, on the contrary, Olsson began to professionally engage in mountain skiing and mountaineering.
Future life
In 2001, 25-year-old Thomas became a master, after which he decided to move to France in the small town of Chamonix, located in the Alps at the foot of Mont Blanc. There he approached rock climbing more thoroughly. The young athlete was professionally engaged in extreme skiing in high mountains. So, during these years, Tom Olsson conquered Aconcagua (the highest peak in the Andes, 6960, 8 m above sea level), Lenin Peak (7134 m), a volcano in Kamchatka, Muztagata (a mountain in the Pamirs, 7546 m high), Kuksai peak (7134 m) and Cho-Oyu (a mountain in the Himalayas, the height of which is 8201 m).
At the same time, Thomas did not stop working in his specialty. The young man gave lectures, developed and promoted products of famous Norwegian brands.
Everest Expedition
Olsson had a goal of becoming the first person to ski and climb Everest. To implement it, Thomas went home to Sweden, where he spent some time preparing for the ascent. To adjust his form in winter, he again left for Chamonix. In preparation for the major climb of his life, Tom climbed Mont Blanc in 2005.
Thomas did not want to conquer Everest alone, so he decided to go on an expedition with his friend, extreme skier and climber Turmud Graneheim.
In the spring of 2006, Olsson, along with his partner and photographer, went to Everest from the Tibet side. Olsson and his comrades successfully climbed to an altitude of 6400 meters in a couple of days, although it usually takes at least 5 days to complete this route. The summit of Everest was reached on May 16, 2006, the climbers went to the north side, where Thomas planned to ski down. It is known that this route is one of the most dangerous and difficult.
Not paying attention to fatigue, the climbers began to descend from the steep slope, but as soon as the young people covered 460 meters, Thomas's ski broke. At this time, the partners were passing the rock, the snow anchor, installed earlier, could not stand it. Thomas Olsson fell 2500 meters down. He died immediately. Olsson's partner did not stop, but continued to let him, and after a while found the body of Thomas at an altitude of 6700 meters.
Personal life
There were no wife and children. He spent the last years of his life in France.
Memory
Ten years after the death of Thomas Olsson, a sculpture in his honor, made of bronze by the sculptor Brixel, was erected in Boros, where the climber grew up.
