In Russia, it was customary for newlyweds to give a barrel of honey for a wedding without fail. The weight of such a barrel could range from five to ten kilograms. Maybe it depended on the generosity of the donor. The newlyweds had to eat the presented honey within a month. Thus, they took care of the health and strength of the young, as well as their future children. In Russia, honey has always been considered a storehouse of useful vitamins and minerals. Therefore, the woman was given honey to drink during childbirth. And the man was advised to eat a few spoons before going to bed with his wife.
Honeymoon in Greece
Greece has always had a similar honeymoon concept. Just as in Russia, it was customary to give honey to newlyweds. Before introducing the newlyweds into the house, it was necessary to feed them with honey.
In Greece, it was customary for newlyweds to retire for a whole month and drink mead, devoting time exclusively to each other.
And by the way, mead was consumed during the honeymoon not only in Greece. Its main ingredients were honey, water, and cherries. All kinds of spices could also be added there.
In some European countries, the tradition of drinking delicious honey wine in the first month after the wedding has survived to this day. Only the newlyweds themselves do not drink, but their close relatives. It is believed that this has a positive effect on their future relationship. How they spend their honeymoon nowadays
The similarity of our time with antiquity lies in the fact that newlyweds still prefer to spend the first month of life together, traveling or relaxing somewhere. Tourist routes in beautiful cities are often chosen: Venice, Paris, St. Petersburg, Czech Republic, Hungary.
