Patsy Kensit is an English-born actress who has starred both in her homeland and in Hollywood. Among other things, she played in the legendary action movie Lethal Weapon 2 (1989). In addition, in the eighties, Patsy Kensit became famous as the lead singer of the musical group Eighth Wonder.
Parents of the future star
Patsy Kensit was born on March 4, 1968 in London. Her father's name was James Henry. It is known about him that for some time he was in prison and was closely associated with the criminal world (in particular, he was a companion of the twin brothers Cray - famous English gangsters). Her mother (her name is Margaret Rose Duhan) worked as a journalist.
It is interesting that Patsy's parents lived in a civil marriage for many years and formalized their relationship only in 1986.
First roles
Patsy started acting in early childhood. She first appeared on TV in a Birds Eye commercial for frozen peas in 1972 (that is, she was about four years old at the time). Moreover, in the same 1972, the girl appeared in a big movie - in the film "For the love of Hell".
Two years later, Patsy took part in the filming of The Great Gatsby, starring the famous actress Mia Farrow. Patsy herself played here such a character as Pammy Buchanan.
In the early eighties, she appeared in several well-known projects from the BBC. In 1981, Patsy Kensit played Estella in her youth in the mini-series based on the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. A year later, in 1982, she played the role of Margaret Plantagenet in the television adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Richard III. Kensit has also been featured on the BBC's children's television programs The Adventures of Pollyanna (1982) and Luna (1983). Moreover, in "Luna" she played the central character - the girl Luna, who lives in a non-standard and at times dangerous world of the future.
Further creativity
In 1986, Patsy also made herself known as a singer. She became the vocalist of the English pop group Eighth Wonder.
Many songs of this group in the second half of the eighties were popular throughout Europe. Songs such as "Stay With Me", "When the Phone Stops Ringing", "I'm Not Scared" can be cited as examples. It is worth noting that the last song was written and produced by the famous English pop duo Pet Shop Boys. And, in fact, it became the main hit of the Eighth Wonder.
However, already in 1988, Patsy left the pop group and again focused on her acting career.
In 1989, she starred in Lethal Weapon 2. Here she got the role of the secretary of the South African consulate in the United States, Ricky Van Den Haas. In the course of the plot, it is with Rika that one of the main characters falls in love - Martin Riggs (as many people remember, he was played by Mel Gibson).
After a rather successful duet with Gibson, Patsy appeared in the drama "Twenty-One". Her character here is called Katie. Katie is a young girl, on whose behalf, in fact, the story is told: she talks about her life and her sexual partners. For this role, Kensit was ultimately nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress.
In 1992, the actress took part in the filming of the British comedy "The messenger is to blame for everything." Here she played Caroline Wright - a realtor who is ready to go to literally anything to make a profitable deal for herself.
In 1995, Kensit co-starred with Mark Rylance and Christine Scott Thomas in the drama Angels and Insects about the mores of Victorian England. Interestingly, this film was even nominated for an Oscar in the Costume Design category.
In the next few years, Kensit had virtually no significant film and TV roles. On the other hand, she could still be seen in some projects - in the TV series The Last Don 2 (1998), in the films Bomb Man (1998), Chasing a Dream (1999), Beyond sun (2001).
In 2002, Stella starred in the comedy "The Only One in the World", and it was one of the most striking acting works of the early 2000s.
It is also worth mentioning the participation of the actress in the soap opera "Emmerdale Farm" in 2004. Here she played a female character like Sadie King.
During this period, Patsy Kensit regularly appeared in the popular British adult sketch show Bo 'Selecta!
Since 2007, Patsy has been playing Nurse Faye Morton in the television series Holby City. In total, she performed this role for about three years - until 2010.
In 2008, Kensit took part in the popular British documentary series "Family Pedigree". This project explores the family trees of celebrities, and in one of the episodes it was Kensit who became the main character. Moreover, this episode has become one of the highest rated in the history of the series - it was watched by more than 7 million viewers.
In September 2010, Kensit entered the English dance show Strictly Come Dancing. Her partner here was professional dancer Robin Windsor.
On January 7, 2015, Kensit, along with other famous personalities, took part in another TV show - "Celebrity Big Brother". However, already 21 days after the launch, she dropped out of the project.
Personal life
Patsy Kensit was married four times. Her first spouse was keyboardist Dan Donovan. The actress lived with him for three years, from 1988 to 1991.
Patsy's second husband was Jim Kerr, lead singer of the rock band Simple Minds. She formalized a relationship with him in 1992. This marriage lasted until 1996. It is also worth noting that Patsy gave birth to a son from Jim, whom she named James.
In 1997, she married again - this time to singer Liam Gallagher, a member of the rock group "Oasis". On September 13, 1999, they had a child - a boy named Lennon (he was so named after John Lennon). However, in 2000, Liam and Patsy divorced.
In 2009, the actress became the wife of DJ Jeremy Healy. But this marriage was very short - already in February 2010 it was reported that Patsy and Jeremy broke up.
