DreamWorks Animations' animation film How to Train Your Dragon, based on a series of books by English writer Cressida Cowell, was released in 2010. He received equally high marks from both viewers and critics. The reason for the success of the film was not so much the exciting special effects as the touching story told in it about true friendship and mutual assistance.

"How to Train Your Dragon" is a multi-genre film. It is a fantasy, comedy, family and adventure movie at the same time. The irony resounds here both in the very name of the Olukh Island, where many generations of Vikings live, and in the comments of the young Hiccup, on whose behalf the story is being told. In the first shots of the film, Hiccup complains about pests that steal food supplies from the inhabitants of the island, carry away livestock and set fire to houses. And, well, it was beetles or rats, but the calm course of village life is disturbed by real dragons.
Step 2
Of course, the harsh everyday life of adults and young Vikings is entirely devoted to the fight against winged villains. Only the sickly idiot Hiccup remains on the sidelines, and in fact he is the son of a powerful tribal leader, who is clearly ashamed of his unlucky offspring. But Hiccup is ready to prove to his father that he can become a dragon fighter, however, he decides to act not by force, but by cunning.
Step 3
With the help of a cunning device, the boy manages to catch the most dangerous, in the opinion of his fellow tribesmen, dragon - the night fury. But Hiccup suddenly realizes that he is simply not capable of killing a living creature. And then a miracle happens - the freed dragon does not touch the defenseless teenager and saves his life more than once, risking his own.

The film conquers with fantastic shots of flying on dragons, captures scenes of a battle with a terrible monster, by whose will not evil dragons attack people at all, makes you worry about the fate of Hiccup and his devoted friend the dragon Toothless, who almost died in this battle.

And yet, impressive special effects are by no means the main reason for the success of this generally unpretentious and completely predictable story. The main thing here is the kindness and readiness for self-sacrifice of almost all the characters in the film (both people and the dragon), the acquisition of mutual understanding between father and son, the birth of the first youthful love. While most "grown-up" films based on such plots call for an incessant struggle, this kind and charming cartoon offers an alternative solution. It turns out that you can not fight, but be friends, and good-natured dragons, endowed with the habits of cats and dogs, can turn into adorable pets.
Step 6
The success of the film prompted the management of the DreamWorks studio to release its sequel - "How to Train Your Dragon 2", which, unlike most remakes, turned out to be no worse, and in some ways even more interesting than the first part. The film takes place 5 years after the reconciliation of the Vikings and dragons. Hiccup finds his mother Valka, who is dedicated to saving dragons. Meeting with her sheds light on many features of the young man's character. Here, Hiccup is faced with a new enemy - Draco Bludwist, a mad conqueror who for some time manages to subdue even the devoted Toothless to his will.
Step 7
In the finale, good again triumphs over evil, and Toothless, once again, saves the life of his friend. Having matured and lost his father, Hiccup becomes the new leader of the tribe.
