Instructions
Step 1
You can apply for Portuguese citizenship if you have lived in the country for at least 6 years. At the same time, the stay in Portugal must be continuous and legal. Such stay is provided by: work visas, family reunification visas, temporary residence visas. The time spent on vacations outside the country is deducted from the total time spent. The next basis for filing an application is marriage with a Portuguese citizen, which lasted more than three years. Also, the application can hear an application for political asylum on the territory of Portugal (refugees).
Step 2
To apply for citizenship, take a language exam. Register on the portal created by the Portuguese Ministry of Education (information - https://portal.mec.gov.br/). Registration begins one month before the specified date for the exam, which is held each trimester. The venue will be the high school closest to you. To successfully pass the test, you need to get 51% correct answers (level of the 4th grade of the Portuguese secondary school). You can find out the results on the website in two weeks.
Step 3
Apostille your birth certificate. This procedure is carried out in the registry office, where it was issued. Thus, it becomes an international document.
Step 4
Obtain two samples of a criminal record. Request this document from the Department of Internal Affairs in your area. In the General Prosecutor's Office, put an apostille on the certificates
Step 5
After collecting the necessary documents, contact a special bureau for translating documents into Portuguese. After that, assure them at the Consulate of the Russian Federation on the territory of Portugal.
Step 6
Take the documents to the Civil Records Conservatory in your region of residence. The waiting time for a response varies from 6 months to a year. As a result, you will receive a letter confirming your application or with a list of additional documents that will need to be presented.
Step 7
If you are applying for political asylum in Portugal, you will need to provide real evidence that you are being oppressed and persecuted in your home country. Initially, you will be provided with a special refugee camp, in which you will spend from six months to two years while the circumstances of your asylum application are clarified. During this time, you will be able to familiarize yourself with the language for the subsequent examination.
