The term "subordination" comes from the Latin word subordinatio - "submission". Subordination is a system of rules that regulate relationships between people in any environment - military personnel, in a work collective, a business structure, an educational institution, in a family.
Initially, the word "subordination" was used in the army and meant the subordination of junior in rank to senior. In the army, as well as in other paramilitary structures (police, prosecutor's office, tax service, security, collection), the subordination is expressed most clearly and has many formal signs - a special uniform with insignia, documents regulating the behavior of employees (charter), as well as rules communication (a form of greeting or addressing colleagues in the service).
In a broader sense, subordination is the respectful attitude of those younger in age or those lower in the career ladder to older ones in age or status.
Disorders of subordination can occur due to disrespect or lack of upbringing (for example, calling an elderly person "you", except for close relatives with whom you are in a trusting relationship). Violation of subordination also happens due to ignorance of the rules adopted in a given community or team, or can be provocative in nature in order to cause a negative response in a person (anger, cry, tears).
The importance of subordination lies in the fact that it helps to ensure the proper order of work at the enterprise (industrial discipline), the combat effectiveness of military units, the effectiveness of the educational process at school or university.
In some organizations, subordination can be present only formally, in the names of employees' positions (director, head of department, specialist). They say about such groups that they have a warm, friendly atmosphere. Demonstrative disregard for subordination, deliberate disregard of the accepted rules of communication is called familiarity.
The rules of subordination adopted in each specific team must be brought to the attention of new team members in time. The boss must behave correctly in relation to subordinates. In collectives with a hierarchical structure, responsibilities are not only among the junior, but also among the senior members. The commander must take care not only that the soldiers exactly follow orders, but also that they are healthy, well fed and dressed. The manager must ensure that all employees receive their wages on time. In families, parents have a great responsibility for the life, health and well-being of their children.
