Our ancestors, the Slavs, in the distant times of the Great Nations Migration, came from Asia to Europe. Over time, they settled throughout Eurasia, forming their own villages, and then cities.

Step 1

The Slavs lived in small settlements along the banks of rivers and lakes. Their first dwellings were dugouts, covered with earth and thatch. In the cold season, they heated the stones red-hot in the fire, and then, scalding them with water, filled the dugout with warm steam. Later the dwellings of our ancestors changed. They began to coat the wicker huts with clay. And then they began to build more solid structures from logs. Such huts were heated in a black way - in the center they raised a hearth, the smoke of which went into the hole in the wall or ceiling.

Step 2

The harsh climate forced our ancestors to learn how to make warm clothes for themselves from animal skins. To hunt successfully, people mastered such weapons as a bow and arrow, a spear, a stone ax and an ax. Armed, a person could even cope with the owner of the forest - a bear. In the warm season, the clothes of the Slavs consisted only of a shirt and wide trousers for men, and a long shirt for women.

Step 3

The main occupation of the Slavs was taking care of their own well-being. They were engaged in agriculture, invented new tools, raised livestock: pigs, cows, goats and sheep. Bulls and horses were used in agriculture. The Slavs also ate mushrooms and berries, collected honey from wild bees and fished.

Step 4

Byzantine authors described the Slavs in their writings as follows: they are physically strong, hardy fair-haired people, they are tall and strong in build. In battles with enemies, they are brave and tireless. The Slavs fight with swords, bows and arrows, and defend themselves with large shields.

Step 5

Slavic boys from early childhood were brought up as future warriors. They were taught to remember blood grievances, to be honest, strong in spirit and body. Together with their mother, the girls were engaged in the home, making and mending clothes.

Step 6

The religion of our ancestors was pagan. They worshiped the gods associated with natural phenomena and elements: Perun - the god of thunder and lightning, Stribog - the god of the wind, Svarog - the god of the sky, etc. The Slavs' natural phenomena were animated, therefore the main rite of worship of the elements was sacrifice.

Step 7

Among the arts among our ancestors, woodcarving was especially popular. Household utensils, toys for children, as well as musical instruments were made of wood: gusli, pipes, beeps.
