Biography

Loginov Dima was born in Moscow in 1977. His family lived in an ordinary Soviet apartment. He remembers that he often came up with games with shops. He cut out and glued small shops and entire shopping malls out of paper. He painted, furnished internal and external spaces, filled them with goods. All shops had original names and signs. Scissors were his main tool in such pursuits, and, probably, that is why he learned to be a hairdresser after graduating from school.

For over 13 years he has been doing hairstyles and haircuts. But the moment came when he realized that he no longer wanted to cut. Dima felt cramped in the art of hairdressing.

Way to the West

In 2008, Dima simultaneously graduated from the International School of Design in Moscow and the Interior Design School Rhodec in the UK.

He was educated in interior design, but later became fascinated with object design. It all started out as an experiment. Dima was not very serious about his idea of modeling interior items, but decided to give it a try. He did not limit his imagination and created layouts on a computer in a 3D system. He thought over everything: functionality, style, accessibility. He approached each model philosophically. Ideas were born, and he impulsively, without thinking about how professionals would react to his work, created and created. It was important for him to capture the idea and then figure out what to do with it.

When there were a lot of ideas, Dima went with them to the global network. He took a catalog of Milan salons and sent a portfolio along the entire list. He has submitted his models to thousands of Western blogs. For a while, there were no answers, but letters appeared in the mail with questions from dealers, architects, bloggers and ordinary people. Everyone asked where and how you can buy the shown interior items. And then Dima realized that there was considerable interest in his idea.

Dima started participating in various product design competitions. His endeavors have been spotted at Western exhibitions. He recalls how he made his first felt carpet, he was so captured by this process that he did not feel pain in his fingers and wounds from scissors. Everything was cut by hand, every detail was adjusted, the pile from the felt flew in different directions. Even his dog sneezed and choked on the felt dust, but he made a carpet and sent it to a show in Miami. It was in 2008 - the Brushwood by Dima Loginoff carpet won the main prize in the competition.

Difficulties of Russian design

According to many experts, 2 stereotypes hinder the development of design in Russia:

We cannot afford it

D. Loginov most of all works with Italian companies and sees well the difference in the culture of communication between a designer and a manufacturer. In Russia, a designer is shackled not by a lack of ideas, but by a lack of manufacturer's interest. After all, it's not enough to come up with an idea, you need to find a bold company that will implement it - launch it into production.

Designers will come up with something that we cannot produce, and if we do, we cannot sell

Author's Russian object design is a special kind of art. The peculiarity is that most Russians have no desire to make their lives unique. Mass character still weighs even on the thinking of new generations. Therefore, the Russian consumer is still content with ikeevskaya furniture and interior items.

D. Loginov has been working for more than 10 years, mainly in the western market of object design. He sees the backwardness of the Russian design industry both internally and externally. Now the design of Russia is at the stage of emancipation and training.

There are already some advances in Russian product design. D. Loginov and the company "Nephrite Ceramics" began cooperation. In 2018, the Batimat exhibition was held. There were presented 9 collections of ceramic tiles for bathrooms by D. Loginov. Particularly interesting are "Tokyo" with the use of patterns - accentuating elements, "Marais" - an imitation of the watercolor technique of drawing with a combination of gloss and dullness, "Muse" - for lovers of minimalism, drawing with the effect of natural, truthful "smudges". About this collection D. Loginov says that it is the most ironic of all that was invented by him.

At exhibitions in Russia D. Loginov gives a good idea to Russian designers. After all, Russia is a multinational country with a special mentality. We need our own interior, different from the West. It can develop on the basis of deep spirituality using the traditions of folk art. You can come up with things that will reflect the national motives of Russians, Tatars, Bashkirs, peoples of the North, etc. Do not forget the history and do not have to be equal to the European style.

The future through the eyes of Dima Loginov

The main aspect of the development of design in Russia will not be the development of large industrial companies, but small industries. Right now, the biggest problem for a Russian item designer is that it's hard to find a manufacturer. This is what will become asceticism. Designers will create small collections and will be forced to produce their own ideas. Thus, they diversify the market of author's design items.

What will help budding designers?

D. Loginov conducts many seminars and courses in Russian cities. He has a master class "Basic mistakes of a beginner designer", which not only does not become obsolete over time, but, on the contrary, becomes more and more in demand.

Five signs of future design success:

  1. curiosity and a sense of constant information hunger;
  2. unlimited and enduring professional interest;
  3. the ability to generate ideas and not wonder where to get inspiration;
  4. perseverance and diligence, possession of many skills and abilities;
  5. true motivation is a sincere love for one's work and a desire to delight and delight society. It is false to think only of material gain and prestige.

Personal moments

D. Loginov is successful and self-sufficient. He devotes a lot of time to his profession. He achieved demand and material well-being. When Dima bought the first apartment himself and furnished it to his liking, he did not even think that in 10 years he would think about the words of Karl Lagerfeld that any object becomes obsolete over time and not only because it gets old and decays, but because it becomes uninteresting in contemplation. Change is needed. Creative people need updates all the time. Dima has no desire to make repairs, he bought a house outside the city and moved there. Loves dogs.
