Step 1
It is possible to obtain Italian citizenship six months after the marriage with an Italian citizen. However, only on condition that both spouses live in the country. If none of the spouses lives in Italy, then it will be necessary to wait three years to obtain citizenship.
Step 2
You can also get the coveted document by naturalization, that is, you need to live in Italy for ten years. It is worth noting that in some cases, the government of the country can reduce the period of residence to five years. Here are the cases in which the acquisition of citizenship can occur in a short time: for example, if a foreigner was born in Italy, then the time of his official residence should be only 3 years. Citizens of the European Union who have lived in the country for four years can also apply for citizenship. In addition, stateless persons, refugees and adult foreigners adopted by an Italian citizen will need 5 years of residence. If the foreigner is a minor, then he needs to live in Italy for not five years, but seven.

Foreigners who have been in the Italian public service for at least five years (even while outside the country) will not need any period of residence.
